Hey fatty boom boom!

Well at long last, I've managed to track down & purchase a fatty!
Been on the hunt for a specific model (4.4 tdv8 Stornaway/Orkney Grey with ivory interior, sub 100k mile, LR history & in good fettle) & it's taken me well over 6 months.
Manheim auctions in Manchester had this Westminster '12 plate with 88k sitting on matching Continentals and graded NAMA 2 which I thought pretty good. Drove 250 miles from sleepy Suffolk, manage to buy her then drove 250 miles back home without a glitch. Drove very well, no messages, no lights & pretty impressed seeing as I'm driving an 'unknown quantity' as it were.
Overdue a service which is annoying, & I'll have all the 'box fluids done as well hopefully this week or next.
Needs a really good deep clean inside & out & the odd mark here & there, but generally not bad seeing as she came out of an auction. More photos when I've had chance to clean her properly.
More photos to follow & probably the odd inane question will undoubtedly follow as well! Very Happy

Great looking car 👍

A lot of folk avoid auctions saying that the cars there are “unknown quantities”. However I have picked up several late model cars from British Car Auctions over the years and they have been good vehicles. I guess that it’s all about the perception of the buyer?

Yes you can........£14,160 out of the door.
CAP average guide was £12500
CAP clean guide was £13k
There were several 'hall' bidders up to 12.8k then me & two 'on-line' trade bidders, hammer fell at £13800.
Probably a tad more than I wanted to pay for her but fortunately for me, my future son-in-law's brother is a trader & I used his account & saved over £425 in commission [private buyers commission is horrendous, nearly £750 +vat].
Stratstone Woodford, Stratstone Nottingham & Hatfield Land Rover Hull are the stamped dealer service details, invoices for the last two Hull services present.

Interestingly enough, Manheim had an identical car in Leeds that same week with 66k & CAP clean on that was £15.5k which I thought a little steep?

That was a good price Mr Fox, especially when you look at similar Westie’s on Auto Trader.

Yes, you don’t get a warranty with it but most warranties from car dealers are only for 6 months and don’t cover a great deal. With the money you have saved you can stick a Warranty Direct policy on her, carry out a full service and valet, splash out on new mats, wheels etc and still be a few £1000 better off 👍

Great looking car and a good price I reckon.

I bought my very first FFRR in 2009 from an auction without seeing it or driving it first. It was a 2002 td6 but was 100%. Not a thing went wrong with her for over 3 years. All I did was service. Everything worked just as it should have. Would definitely buy from an auction again. You can reject them if you find stg amiss immediately after buying.

Auction houses are actually getting better, the days of Glass' guide are well gone. There's so much more information available now both inside the auction & outside. Providing you do a 'due diligence ' test on the vehicle & use your head you'll be fine. I've bought several cars from both Manheim, BCA & Aston Barclay & never got my fingers burnt. Just hope the fatty carries on in the same mild.
Mega service booked in for Thursday😁
