Hello all. A newbie here.

I am choosing between a 4.4 Vogue or a 3.0 Vogue SE.

The 4.4 has ivory leather and is cheaper but has more miles.

SE has a decent spec and rear entertainment.

4.4 has done 70k miles. 3.0 has done 35k miles.

4K cheaper for the bog standard 4.4.

SE has 22” wheels, opening roof, usual SE refinements.

Help guys. Which would you choose ?

Hi dolph34, I have driven a 3.0 which I found smoother. People rave about the 4.4 but I find the 3.0 a sweet smooth unit. The crankshaft and oil dilution issues worry me though.

If the 3.0 had an ivory interior I think I would go with that.

So i am stuck with a base car Vogue 4.4 no extras or a good spec 3.0 but with a black interior (which IMHO does not look as nice).

Oh 4.4 has wood look the 3.0 has piano black wood.

How useful is dual view?

there is also the 4k saving, but the 4.4 has marginally higher road tax. Both cars EU6. 2016 model year cars.

Both have full LR service history.

There isn't a right answer......

Dual view is essential if your front seat passenger wants to watch videos whilst you're driving - and worthless if they don't. Mine has never been used

Wheels are an easy swap afterwards

There's more cars out there, so you have to figure out what are your must haves / desirables / can live without.

I have a 4.4 because I tow & have a heavy right foot

I have a Vogue SE because my wife likes cooled seats & I wanted the 825w over the 380w audio - both could be optioned on a Vogue, but it just made searching easier to go for a VSE where they were standard

I needed a tow bar - and they are expensive to retrofit, so that helped narrow the search etc.

I would agree with the 3.0 being smoother. Personally i prefer the 4.4 but if we all liked the same the world would be a boring place. The lower milage would appeal to me if engine size wasn't a decider. I had ivory in my last 2 and black in my current one with piano and it looks well IMHO. Dual view is a gimmick and i never use it. From what you have said in your posts the 3.0 seems to be edging it slightly. 2015 4.4 AB

Sort out your preferred engine and specification choice first and then go looking for the best example that you can find

The 3.0 and 4.4 are very different to drive. The 3.0 is smooth, surprisingly economical and makes a nice noise; some users report that they can feel the engine weight difference in corners too. But, the 3.0 lacks the flatter cornering, seemless bottom end urge, much better brakes, startling over taking capability, effortless cruising capability (70mph = 1,350rpm in top) and the, good-for-the engine’s-lifetime, robust crankshaft of the 4.4. The dual view screen is only a gimmick for those who’s passengers don’t want to watch a DVD on a long journey. Mine insists! In fact, the lack of a dual view screen on post 2018 cars is a deal breaker for us and if ours were a total loss claim tomorrow, we’d only replace with a used pre-facelift one.

It’s not just a matter of toys, VSE and above have more comfortable front seats too. The 22” wheels look fabulous, but 21’s and especially 20’s, are much more practical and nicer to drive on. Rear seat entertainment is hopelessly unreliable and inconvenient to use, despite multiple software upgrades and most rear passengers would be better off with an iPad tethered to a mobile phone I’d sooner have it than not, but it’d be well down on the list or priorities!

From what you’ve said so far, I’d be looking for a 4.4 Vogue SE, with an Ivory interior and as long as the history is all in order and there’s a good, long, warranty then don’t worry about the mileage too much History is everything with these cars and dealers have been known to come up with all sorts of 🐓 and bull stories as to why services are missing and why it’s “nothing to worry about” Beware, main dealers have just degraded their standard “Approved” warranty from 2 years to 1. While this has only brought them in to line with the likes of BMW, it’s worth including haggling back up to 2 years in negotiations.

This ^ bloody good advice!

FWIW the V8 is a totally different animal - cornering, handling and outright performance are totally different - I’ve put up with adequate power and performance - the V8 has grunt. Plus with the reliability issues of the V6 it was a no brainier for me.

Yes, the V6 is adequate and a bit quieter but then it would be - the V8 Diesel is a massive engine and 1400 CC’s bigger, in Euro box terms that’s a spare engine in its own right. The V6 isn’t smoother than the V8, it’s just a bit quieter - we are though talking £100k car quietness  2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
