Afternoon all,
I have been lurking for a while and am now in the market for a low mile, well maintained 5.0SC version of the L322 car.

My ideal spec is really stornaway grey or blue, but this one is on the market not far from me and looks to have had the timing chain replaced not long ago, which is a bonus.

What do the learned forum members think of it and is there anything vital missing from the specification?

I agree, it is more expensive than I want to pay, but that seems to be the market for this car from a dealer.

There is a nice grey one at Avanti Automotive in Bristol with less mileage for £22,995, but the MOT history makes it look like it hasn't been very well looked after and it hasn't had the timing chain done.

A car from "John Lewis" sounds like a very safe buy!

Regards your thread-starting example, I like it very much. As you start to get to 8 years+, the price starts to blur slightly was you consider history, condition and mileage combined with spec, which for cars like this can be awfully tricky to get just-right. No doubt this dealer would take an offer.

That said, very little can beat a forum member's car... it will be very interesting to compare.

The car in the OP looks nice, but does seem a bit expensive.

For comparison I bought my 5.0SC 13months ago. And from a similar type of independent dealer, specialising in premium and prestige cars. porsches, mclarens, mercs bmws etc. It was the best one i could find at the time, so was definitely buying at the very top of the L322 market.


It's a virtually identical car (although mine's got the better audio ).

Mine's a (late) 2010 and but only had 48k miles on it. I paid, just over a year ago, around 10% lower than that car is advertised at, including warranty.

I had the timing chain done in December, mostly covered by warranty. Again, for comparison purposes, the total cost for this was around £1750. So while it's good to have had it done, I can't see it raising the value by more than a couple of grand tops.

Jpboost out of interest do you mind sharing where you had the timing chain done? I bought a 2011 SC AB from a main dealer about 15 months ago but was unable to determine whether the timing chain had been done previously or not. All prices I've seen for getting this done seem to be several thousands. £1750 seems a much better deal for this job.

It was a (very good) local mechanic that I have used for years, but he's recently moved on, so I can't share any useful contact details.

I'll dig out the invoice, but from memory it was something like 800 in parts (genuine parts, obviously), then around 15-20 hours labour. Plus the VAT.

I had a separate issue, that a couple of the injectors didn't appreciate being removed and refitted, So this was another 3-400 or so resolve. I didn't include this in the main cost as I think I was just unlucky. Certainly I've not read that this is typical issue to hit when doing the chain.

If you are gong to use an independent, there are specialist tools required for both replacing the chain and for injector removal.


While it's apart, you probably want to check/renew the coupling in the supercharger snout. I also replaced all the main belts as they were coming off anyway.

A couple of bad reviews on Google about the dealer and their service. Suppose you can't please everyone.

I bought my RRS 4.2SC from there last year and gave it back to them. Nice father and son outfit to deal with while you're looking, but I wouldn't buy another car from them.

Seemed to me and my local Indy who checked over the RRS that they make a big deal of cosmetic preparation and ignore the oily (and expensive) bits even though they have their own servicing facility. In that respect pretty much like most 2nd hand dealers I guess.

They do tend to be a bit pricey too. Current: FF Westminster money pit

That looks like Sumatra Black, not Santorini, and would make sense that it was Sumatra as there was a shortage of Santorini paint at the time. I had two 5.0sc on L322 and they are pretty bullet proof as long as maintained well. I personally would hold out for one with the following;

Harmon Kardon HD upgraded Hifi
4 zone climate control
Surround Cameras
Black Leather Headlining

Also watch out for centre screen as those finger prints cant be cleaned off, and a new unit is a small fortune. Also paintwork looks a little scratched too, nothing a good detail wont sort. I would personally go for the black leather headlining too rather than ivory. check the warranty work done on it too. If you have the reg number most dealers should be able to tell you a history.

A top spec car would have had all of the above, the reclining rear seats are good and worth getting too as that also was an extra as had on both of mine and they are a lot more comfortable. Thats only my view for what its worth.

Good advice here although just to clarify the finger prints on the dual view screen definitely can be cleaned - there’s a very useful thread about it on here. In short it’s the anti glare coating partially rubbing off. A baby wipe carefully used will remove the remaining coating (obviously you do this at your own risk) - worked brilliantly on mine and only took a few minutes.
