I just used a thin chisel between the bolt heads, but you could probably use a piece of 15mm wide steel. Key thing is at least 3 or 4 hands to hold the pulley "blocker" and the viscous fan tool + hammer.
NB make sure you don't hit a fan blade - they break or split! Paul,

In order to remove Cooling Fan the Work Shop manual for TDV8 2006-2010 says that I need Special Tools.

1] Viscous coupling spanner 303-1142
2] Viscous coupling pulley retaining tool 303-1241

Powerful uk replied that they don't stock this item and so it may be worth checking on the Range Rover forums for alternative stockists in this case. I think they just sell 303 -1143 alternative which is for Disco 3 a 4.

The Viscous coupling spanner 303-1142 is available on ebay/amazon no issues there.
But Viscous coupling pulley retaining tool 303-1241 is i bit a mystery for me. Is it just some kind of wrench? Any alternative, please?

The Viscous coupling pulley retaining tool 303-1241 is just a device to hold the pulley stationary while you use the fan nut spanner to loosen the big 36mm nut.
All it does is locate on 2 or 3 of the pulley retaining bolt heads - for you to then hold the tool or abut it against something that won't move.

Land Rover would probably specify a special tool to ensure minimal chance of their "skilled" mechanic making a mistake - even though any real mechanic would know what they're doing. Paul,

I always use a "heel bar" , pointed end on the nut and a good whack with a 4lb hammer , keep the bar as vertical as you can and 3/4 the way across the nut (to the right hand side when looking down at it standing in front of the vehicle), will give you a better turning moment of torque, normally shocks them off with no problem , remember its a left hand thread !

Eventually, I ordered Part No. LRT146-2PC from powerfuluk.com (Retaining tool and the 36mm Spanner) and it worked like a charm. The tool is also compatible with FFRR TDV8 engine and fits on the pump. Thanks everyone.
