Front Suspension Bottom Bush Tools

Any recommendations with regard to tools for removing the bushes and installing new ones? Is the a Draper kit or similar that will do the job?

I've got one of these and did the uppers with it but it's much easier with a press as well.

That looks a pretty good kit, was it man enough for getting the bushes out relatively easy? BMW i3 Electric Car

I wouldn't say relatively easy but it got them out. Need a touch of lubrication to get the new ones in too.

Without a press it's the next best way but try get some penetrating fluid to soak in to make life easier. You could use the cups and a wide mouth vice if you can't get them out with the threaded bars. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

I had one of those kits and just found the ball bearings got mangled and fell apart after a single use, ended up binning the rods and just using the cups.

If you are going to change bushes then a press kit like the one in the link is a must. Used on all bushes at the rear of the car ( I mean all - though the inner wishbone bushes needed a big hide hammering as well to get them to move)

My press kit sits in my "Tool Hall of Fame", along with my flaring tool, and one of my Grandmother's bone handled flat knives Laughing .

Assuming the ball joint cassette is ok, does anyone know if the front bush could be changed in situ?

I wonder if the arm could be dropped away from the chassis mount, pivoting on the ball joint end enough to get clearance for a press kit on it?

. Cheers, Greg

I Did one of my front upper wishbone bushes like this. Depended how corroded in they are in the arms. It's easier off the car but could be done to save the job of removing the ball joint. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue
