Mystery switch

While replacing a suspected faulty brake light switch, I found this, no idea what it does. Anyone know? Seems to click left/right but can't see anything happening.

It's in the driver's side footwell, just along a bit from the OBD port. 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

Interesting I was going to post this the other week I have it and curiosity got the best of me I pressed it and it made my steering column go in and out the same as the stalk? Current stable:
2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF
Gone:
2002 4.4 V8 FF
