SWOLLEN WHEEL NUTS?

So just having the inside of one of my rear wheels sorted as whoever painted them before me (professionally) must have not prepped one area that good as there was some bubbling / missing paint,

Anywyas....

My wheel brace doesnt fit the nuts properly??? Luckily i work in a tool hire shop and a 7/8 socket fitted when it should be 22mm, so im guessing the wheel nuts have swollen???

Interested to hear peoples thoughts and experinces on this and what to do tto overcome, luckily tis wasnt at the side of the road...

Are new wheel nuts expensive?

Also pain in the backside with the deployable steps lol..

On another note what is the wheel nut torque settings? Regards

Daz

As Stan said, common issue.

Replaced all of my non locking ones on my old L322 when I swapped the winters on (reminds me I must list them for sale). Virtually all of them were 'bulging'.

As for the steps, just leave a door on that side open (stops air suspension trying to level it too). Even easier if you have the sprinter jack with the new top (must check if it fits the l405).

I would only get proper nuts from a reputable supplier. They could be anything off of eBay.

These things hold on your wheels and trust me (as I had it happen to my nearside front at 70 in a disco2), you do not want a wheel coming off while driving. Current: RR L322 2010

Ask Dan what he can do. I just checked where I got mine from and I didn't pay much more than that price on eBay and got OEM ones. Current: RR L322 2010

Wheel nuts sorted courtesy of dan.

Do you think it’s ok to change one at a time without jacking up the car or removing the wheel??

Also I bloomin dropped my side step board as I went to put it back on. There a bit weird in that I had 3 lugs set in the recess on the brackets and one was not pushing down almost like it’s ever so slightly bent?

Anyway a couple of stone chip size marks any way I can smooth these out? Looks like it’s bare ally so possibly wet and dry?! Regards

I would be tempted to replace them one at the time. Current: RR L322 2010
