Gearbox oil & sump change

Having a bit of a headache with all the options for this job. I feel like this week has been spent on this forum reading any number of threads but I’m still not a lot further forward.

I’ve got a 2007 so it’s a 6 speed. I’ve got a slight weep from the sump so it’s gonna have to come off to reseal. Leading to beeding a new sump in order to change the filter.

What are the recommendations for a sump? I’ve seen replacement ones from Britpart and OE quality for £50-£100 that are metal. A bonus I understand if this was a Discovery or Sport which can’t have the plastic sump removed easily. It a problem on a FF so I’d have a plastic one or metal, whichever is suitable. Has anyone got any recommendations on which to use and the good/bad points of each.

I’ve been reading that the filter is all important, do any of the metal ones come with a good quality filter?

Then there’s oil. Prices seem to vary massively from £15-£40 p/litre for ZF Lifeguard. When you need 7 litres this is a big difference in price.

Finally, please be finally. I’ve read that the mechatronic sleeve can leak inside. The signs of this is that if the car isn’t driven daily then a leak can be a sign of a failed sleeve. I’m lucky if I drive the car every 2 weeks so this is a real possibility but I also have no evidence of this either.

Help, what is the best options.

Thanks

I ordered the (plastic) sump pan from Advanced Factors. If you're going to do the job, you may as well do the mechatronic sleeve. And the oil I ordered was from lrparts as it was a good price and still is.

Select OEM for the ZF stuff. Also order some new torx screws for the sump pan in case you wreck any on the way out.

There is a tightening sequence to follow which I printed out and taped to the underside of the pan when reinstalling to make sure I didn't mess it up. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

You could get that from Dan or Advanced Factors - wherever you're ordering other parts from. The big cost saving (I think) is to be made on the oil where lrparts are much cheaper (unless you're prepared to go with alternatives such as Ravenol).

I would, personally, go with LR original part for the sleeve as it's only about £10 so there's not much saving to be made going with an alternative.

The mechatronic sleeve can require a bit of persuasion to install. And there's also a gearbox level check procedure that needs to be followed (getting temperature within certain limits etc). Apologies if you already know all this stuff. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Thanks

I’ve gone with an OE sump and oil from LR parts and the sleeve from Dan @ Duckworths
