Possible turbo popped

Cruising about 80mph early this morning and lost all power and coasted to a stop
Didn’t notice any plumes of smoke , I have previously had a whistle but couldn’t identify any split hoses etc or cracks in inlet manifold etc , currently waiting to be recovered to garage. No error codes on dash and will turn over but won’t start
Day 6 of tdv8 ownership

In your other thread there was a possibility of a cracked inlet manifold. It may be, with a bit of luck, that the inlet manifold has a crack which has opened up giving the symptoms.

Hopefully better than turbo going. John

OP says tdv8, but it could be a 3.6 or 4.4 Rolling Eyes frustrating trying to help members and not knowing what their question relates to.. ... - .- -.

Profile updated , car towed to nearest farm and waiting for recovery to garage ,the mechanic who towed had a quick look
Isn’t convinced that it is turbo as it would probably still start and that there would have been lots of smoke etc , possibly runaway engine , but can’t say untill gets in to have a look take pipes of etc , my symptoms where sudden loss of power and coasted to a stop wouldn’t start , no smoke no error messages , previous to that there was a whistle that had developed over 6 days I’ve had vehicle , does a knackered turbo always cause lots of smoke runaway diesel etc , car still turns over but he noted that it seemed to be turning over faster ? Any pointers on what to look for during diagnosis would be very much appreciated is there any symptoms depending on which turbo has failed . Apologies for not filling in profile ,I have updated
Cheers Ian

I swear there's something in the air round your neck of the woods. Twice mine has done something similar on the stretch of motorway between the border and Glasgow. Although mine had the full bingo card of errors, HDC failure, suspension lowering etc. But both times in that same place.

Could it have run out of fuel? Or maybe it thinks it has and cuts the engine? Dodgy fuel sender? 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

Downpipes off, check the turbos still turn OK

Lower boost hoses off, check for excessive oil

Thumbs Up

That’s what the mechanic said this morning actually , as I didn’t have any plumes of smoke etc and it wouldn’t start and that it seemed to be turning over quicker than normal , but said he would have to diagnose once it’s recovered properly and not just towed to nearest friendly farm , I can only pray it’s something like that , just a bit worrying as it had developed a whistle

I am going to go with a Gerry can of fuel and see if I have run out of fuel , I’ve read a post on here about running out of fuel
And that the range estimation can’t be trusted , car is reading 50mpg range , no idea on fuel gauges but it thought it was odd when I put £90 pounds in and it didn’t even read half tank ? worth a try before I shell out for recovery , anything I need to look out for when restarting if it is just run out of fuel , any procedure to follow , no errors on dash though , this is probably just wishful thinking and I am prepared for the worst 😂

Sounds like fuel issue to me.

Turbo or inlet would have caused dash to report errors.

Turbo or EGR failure would cause rough running poss smoke __
