A simple way to get your driveshaft back in the hub | |
I had to change my CV boot this week as it was torn.
Getting the driveshaft out was easy. Two strut to hub bolts out, pull the hub down towards you and drift it out
Getting it back in wasn’t so easy. As it’s a machine fit, it doesn’t slide in easily. I hadn’t taken the lower arms off so there was no movement in the hub.
So I improvised.
I drilled a hole in the end of the shaft and tapped an 8mm thread. I then screwed in An Allen bolt and applied a pair of mole grips to it. I then levered it against the hub with a crowbar and it slid back quite satisfyingly.
A longer bolt and a big washer would be better. Then you could pull it through with a socket and ratchet. This was all I had to hand but it worked. I left the Allen bolt in to stop dirt ingress.
