Steering on the newly acquired 2010MY is off centre so I've been reading lots about 4 wheel alignment and been trying to find somewhere near west London that can do it however looking at the workshop manual it appears a special tool is required to adjust the front camber on cars with active damping.

What's the wisdom on this? Is it something a decent alignment shop will have or will it need to go to an LR Indy or... please... don't say the words... main dealer...?

It looks the same way that all vehicles with Macpherson type struts and no other ways of adjusting the camber (lower camber bolts etc.) adjust the camber....undoing and moving the top mount position. Move it towards the centre of the vehicle for more negative camber and outwards for less. Never known a special tool needed to do this on any vehicle to be honest although moving it forwards/backwards will also effect the castor to some extent. It's something a decent alignment place should be able to cope with without issue.

If you mean by 'steering is off centre' the steering wheel is not in the middle when driving straight then it's likely the tracking is out more than anything which is pretty purely the rack fittings that might need attention.

To save your wallet though do the basics first. i.e. go around and check the tyre pressures are correct and even especially from side to side. Also check the tyre wear is showing nothing untoward which might indicate a problem.

Thanks, that's very helpful. I have checked tyre pressures and my mechanic checked the suspension yesterday. He found the front Anti Roll Bar links to be past their best so I'll be getting those changed before taking it in for tracking.

Yes the steering wheel is not in the middle when driving straight. Not sure what you mean by "purely the rack fittings that might need attention" - is that the tie rod arm adjustments?
