Has anyone ever ran a 4.2 with the engine acoustic cover off

I had the plastic cover off today and it it’s packed with deadening material. Is there any harm running with this off to get a more audible engine note or does the supercharger get so hot it might melt the bonnet foam? Current stable:
2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF

Quite a few mechanics do take these covers off (all types of engine) as they are simply a cosmetic/sound deadening piece -

Their drawback is they keep the heat concentrated whereas if you take them off it optimises the air flow/heat exchange around the top of the bloc (I am just reporting their saying, not confirming it at all). l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

How does one remove the engine cover on the 4.2 SC? Mine seems to be held in at the back? 2006MY 4.2 SC

Remove the gubbins that holds the pollen filter first
2 off 13mm nuts on the bulkhead

Got up early to try and find a vacuum leak so thought id get the covers off and drive to the petrol station to get easy start. A little disappointing not sure the volume I was expecting there’s definitely a little more supercharger whine but not a massive amount. Also my temp gauch just got to the middle and I could still touch the super charger so doesn’t look nuts. I’ll leave off for a bit and make my decision Current stable:

Don’t forget though these engine/powertrains are designed and tested to destruction with everything attached, as an integral piece of machinery, not sure how these mechanics have tested the air flow/heat exchange? David
