Strange Coolant Tank Issue

Hi Folks

Looking for a little advice. I have a 2009 4.2 S/C and I'm having some issues with the low coolant warning. The car isn't loosing coolant instead it's holding it in the top section of the expansion tank.

If i open the expansion tank and the bleed nipple the coolant will gurgle away & return to the base of the tank and the level is correct & warning goes away.

After a drive the low warning will come on as the level in the tank drops and the coolant is "held" in the top of the tank. The coolant does not seem to return to the main part of the tank even when the engine cools. The only way to get it back is to crack open the cap & bleed screw.

The tank & the small return hoses have been replaced and it's made no difference.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Cheers

James

A Trap

Interesting, mine does the same, thought it was normal. I have the intermittent coolant level warning, just replaced the coolant and sensors and was going to replace the tank next.

That's good to know mine's not the only one!

I had 4.4v8 with the BMW engine previously & I thought I'd left coolant problems behind when I changed over to the Jag engine!

Appears not!

It's almost as if something prevents it circulating properly, I need to have a look at all the pipes and see where the flow should go and see if that helps shed any light
