I had something similar with a RR Classic 25 years ago, the car ran normally, but unfortunately 6 months later the rubber bit was sucked up into the fuel pick up pipe causing very bad fuel starvation.

The engine would run, but the car wouldn't drive - I was stranded 35 miles from home - not good - resulted in the fuel tank having to be dropped off the vehicle and the offending part removed from the pick up pipe.

Guess with yours, its somebody elses problem now though

The FFRR won't be "Old" for at least another 15 years... by which time it will have outlasted the seemingly acceptable UK Scrapage scheme by a factor of 2.5 but still won't be "old" by comparrison to the survival rates of the rest of the Landrover line up.

Now then If the question referred to "Unfashionable" or "beyond economic repair" thats a different bag of spanners.

Of course as Petrol will be £50 a gallon in 15 years its all accedemic as we'll all be passing our stationary Range rovers on our way to work... on our donkys... Of which LPR and Gaz will have a fine line up should we wish to trade up  2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

Still gearbox related, I called the local LR service centre and asked about getting the gear oil flushed/replaced, as expected, they said it's a filled for life gearbox, but would cost £250 for a full flush through and new filter, now that seems pretty expensive to me, especially when they're usually cheaper than the main dealer.

How much should I be expecting to pay, I seem to recall £140 was mentioned? 2006 Mercedes CLS

Did they say whether they flush the old oil out or just drain the sump?

I said a gearbox flush. I had a bad experience on my old 850 T5 Volvo when the oil was just drained from the diff, the ATF was like water and I lost drive a few times, ended flushing it through so I want a full flush done on the RR as I don't want to cut corners. 2006 Mercedes CLS

Problem is there are very few mechanics who will go to the bother of completely flushing. The norm is drain, remove sump, change filter, replace sump, fill, run, drain refill and if you are really lucky but I have only known it to be done once a third drain and refill.

Yeah I thought it would be a pretty involved job to do. The volvo was easy, the ATF cooler was part of the rad, simply remove a metal clip, pull the top hose out, put on a length of clear hose and start the car in neutral, pump about 2 litres out, top up, and repeat until nice a clean. Dan_1984_UK had his done recently. Not sure if it was a full flush or not but was around £160 IIRC
