[For Sale] Morris Minor 1000 - 1968

For Sale our family owned Morris Minor 1000 (or "Splum"). Two lady owners from new, and has been in our family for the last 25 years or so. Due to bereavement, the car has now been registered in my daughter's name. Sadly we do not have the space or the time to devote to it, therefore looking for a new home.

We believe this is quite a special vehicle. Since purchase it has been cared for by a local mechanic, who, on seeing it for the first time, "went to town" with rust prevention, because there wasn't any (rust) in the first place! This is the case today, and apart from some light surface rust on the painted bumper areas, and a scratch on the bonnet (repaired with nail varnish - grr !) the car is in completely original condition. No dents anywhere, there is a slight deviation on the rear left bumper, but not so as you would notice. No replacement panels, all original. The interior too, as far as I know, is also all original and in very good condition throughout. Best left and kept like this in my opinion....

The car has a genuine from new mileage of 39,450, with the original engine and gearbox.

The engine bay could do with a good clean up ( I might get around to this!), but the rust protection work has been doing its job there as well. The vehicle has been maintained as required, it benefits from an unleaded cylinder head, and a recent starter motor, coil, and new front suspension bushes and rubbers. I have fitted a new seat foam and webbing to the driver's seat, as the existing one was shot to pieces.

Last MOT was 9 April 2018 / Mileage 39,294, now being treated as historic vehicle MOT exempt (and TAX exempt too). Insurance fully comp with agreed mileage and garaged only £60 !! Service and maintenance receipts going back the last 10 years. Car starts on first turn of the key, and drives well.

Blimey!

My grandad had one of those! Does this one always have a bag of boiled sweets on the glovebox too?

What a peach.

My first car was a black one, given to me by a cousin who was returning to Australia after a spell of teaching in the UK. I drove it for a couple of weeks until an MOT tester felt it was rotten as a pear on the chassis so it was sold for a tenner. Seen the following week with different plates. Plates with an MOT I guess. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

Believe it or not, a pack of Extra Strong Mints in the glovebox, Red Merle.

I believe everyone has a MM story in their family somewhere. Even me! The very first car I ever bought was a non roadworthy Morris Minor Convertible - WCA286 iirc - for £80. I was 16 at the time, my Dad went potty! It lived in the garage at the bottom of the garden for a year, then I sold it to a friend for £150. Regretted it ever since. .

That’s a really nice example and if as rust free (and original) as described I think your really under valuing it.

Bit of a bargain I reckon, a trouble free genuine classic Thumbs Up David

It seems a shame to let it leave the family. Have you thought of the film companies that want props like that. letters not necessarily in the right order

If you don't find a buyer for it and want to move it to a sympathetic home, there is a MM specialist near me, a proper (PROPER) old-fashioned oily rag garage, who I've been using for about 30 years and know quite well. I can put you in touch with him regarding either selling to him or him connecting you with a buyer or whatever works, if that's helpful? He's an absolute gent, too.

The car looks lovely, really lovely. We had two when I was a kid and I cut my spannering teeth on a MM, taking the first one apart for spares when the second one was purchased. Then later in life I purchased one which had been in a crash and rebuilt and resprayed it for the then MrsC.

I also remember aged about 8 being in the back seat on the first family one as it careered across the central reservation of the A2 and through 3 lanes of traffic, coming to rest on the opposite hard shoulder with no injuries to anyone Shocked How it happened was never explained to me!!

I'd almost have yours myself, it looks so nice and with such good history, but with 5 cars and 7 bikes I just can't take something else on!

Good luck and let me know if you want that contact. In Kent, btw. 5.0 S/C Autobiography - now gone to pastures new....
