What is the area of maintenance with most common fault?

I am currently selecting different options on my brilliant warranty company and it got me thinking..... what the most common / most expensive areas of faults with the 2011 4.4 TDV8 cars. I know the earlier ones suffered gearbox and suspension issues but would love to know what the 2011’s suffer with the most. If at all?

I am thinking.... suspension components and electrical ?
Cheers all
Gary

Probably best to start here:

Thank you !

Reading through there doesn’t seem to be many major major issues like gearboxes going, or engine / turbos blowing up which is nice. More niggles like hoses, minor oil leaks and electrical issues.

Unlike the Discovery and RRS forums where all you read is ‘body off job’ ‘crank failure’ everywhere. Haha

Here's my quick checklist:

General:

- Rear arches & tailgate rust
- Heated Cooled seat motors two per seat that's 8 if you have front and rear (£200 a unit so do check)
- Driveline fluids should be done, that's 2 x diffs, transfer case and auto trans (I'd want to see those done)
- LCD screen can sometimes go (not to common a failure)

4.4TDV8 specific watch outs:
- Starter (they like to go 80-90k)
- Alternator (they can to go 80-90k)
- Air Con Compressor (valve can fail or be slow to pump cold air)
- Oil Cooler seal (check coolant for oil)
- Upper rear oil leak (o-ring)
- Turbo drain mod (floor it and check mirror for smoke)
- DPF can be an issue if you don't get it over 40 much.
- Check battery voltage (AGM battery is £200 plus)

Ideally get it on a ramp, get the sump covers off and have a really good look for oil leaks. At that time you can verify whether the turbo drain mod has been done.

Fantastic cars, titan engine. Cheers, Greg

I think I got the main items Mike?

Prices are extremely reasonable now too. Why would you buy a boring car?

Above points are all areas to focus your negotiations on.

No evidence of driveline fluids being done? £600-£750 off please.
Air con not cold straight away? That'll need the compressor off, £700 off please.
etc etc

Plenty of expertise here on the forum, jump in!
. Cheers, Greg

A Trap

EGRs can fail... blank them off.
Replace gearbox oil to save the torque converter, clutch packs and solenoids etc.
Turbos can go but no more likely than any other car... just change the oil regularly with good quality synthetic oil, let the car warm before hard acceleration and coast the last few miles or idle before shutting off to cool the turbos after a spirited run.

I am not sure about EGR’s.
I haven’t seen any evidence of them failing and it’s an automatic MOT fail if they spot it has been blanked.

A Trap

Car runs better, oil on inlet stay cleaner and just do a search, failures are common including engine/turbo destructive failures.

As I understand you can't do it on a 4.4TD.
(But it's common on the 3.6)
. Cheers, Greg
