Supercharged grill frame - paint it black.

The grill surround/frame on my 2007 is looking stained. I was thinking of using some stone chip (black) to paint the outer surround that has stained.

Any thoughts? Has anyone painted theirs? Did it look ok? Is stone chip a bad idea?

When I look at one on ebay, it isnt finished in a java black, but more a matt black. Hence I thought my car of stone chip might look ok.

Any comments folks?
Thanks
Mark

I personally would deffo NOT spray it in stone chip sir for 2 reasons... 1st, the finish won't be very nice and the grille surround should really be of a gloss finish if painted... And 2nd, stone chip is made to be overpainted (like a primer) so will bleach with the sun VERY QUICKLY...

Thanks CTC, I appreciate the point of view. I have finished doing it and I think it looks an improvement (ha, at least for now).

I actually didn't want, and don't like a gloss finish as I am not trying to make it into a later model look, I just wanted to tidy up the stains on the plastic surround.

If it goes wrong, I can always buy a new grill (£63), as this was just a "try it and see" approach to a quick tidy up.

I used the stone chip pain on my old '95 Wrangler back in 2015 on all the bonnet catches, rests, wipers, aerial, and lots of other areas. It didn't fade over a few years, so fingers crossed this will be ok.

Cheers
Mark

Having done this, I might be going to the shop to buy some light grey paint to return it to a more factory look. I am not sure I like the black.

Thoughts/ comments please?

Does anyone have an idea as to what colour would be best suited to repaint the grill to original colour? If not I can just try pot luck with a graphite type grey.

Thanks
M

Sorry, I rather like the black. And what would the look be if you painted the scuttle panel at the rear of it? Cheers
