Scotland 2009 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue
Ronnie the Red Range Rover

Meet Ronnie The Red Range Rover. He's an 2004 TD6 HSE in stunning Alveston red. Deffo the best colour ever!

Bought on a whim really in Feb this year as I've always admired the L322. Ronnie has served 4 pretty careful owners prior to me, he's just turned 150,000 miles the other week. Thus far we've enjoyed two long trips down south and even revisited his place of birth, the Solihul factory and Ronnie's done everything tasked and even returned a high of 28mpg, with the average being around 24. Econowagen!

It's not been all joy & happiness however. He did fail to start yin day and had to be recovered to an Indy LR specialst who diagnosed a failed electric fuel pump. The AA paid for that thanks to their breakdown insurance cover, which was nice. Thumbs Up

I've been going through the little jobs that needed doing, rear wiper arm, all wipers renewed, new rear tailgait struts, new discs and pads on the front, NSF height sensor wiring loom repair and most recently rear discs and pads and replacing the totally rotten backing plates. This was another job for the Indy who cuts them in half and welds them back together to save removing the hubs. NSR brake caliper was also replaced as it was seized, as they do.

Just last night I've equipped Ronnie with a neat little gadget which converts the cd multichanger into an A2DP bluetooth streaming device and also HFT, all controlled from the big chunk buttons on the steering wheel. Pretty neat. https://ebay.us/Ltrb3Y

Next job is to remove the bumpers to find out why 3 of the ultrasonic sensors are not funtioning - my guess is - wiring? And then a full coolant drop and refresh as the big, ahem, BMW lump doesn't really get up to proper temp and tends to sit at a quarter on the guage....

Did I mention the Indy was also tasked with renewing the transmission fluid and filter? Yeah that's been done too as a precaution and because I quite like Ronnie really and want him to be reliable and a happy chappie. I'm looking forward to taking Ronnie off-road and shall shortly be joining https://www.scotgrc.co.uk/

That's about it for now. Happy motoring.

That is one sweet looking Range Rover, but I’m biased as my last P38 was in alveston red.

Welcome aboard.

Looks very, very nice. Thumbs Up

The coolant not reaching temperature is probably down to thermostat. Either the EGR one or the main one. Common problem and lots of info on here. Have a search. John

Red is very nice, great looking car you’ve got there 👍

Scotgrc looks good, hadn’t heard of them before but quite keen on a bit of off-roaring myself and not too far from me so will have a look at that. Oh, and welcome to the forum 👍 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

Red is the best colour Thumbs Up So much better than boring silver/grey or black Twisted Evil , and yours looks great.

Temp gauge issue probably either one or both of the thermostats
There is the main one, then the EGR one, best to do both
The TD6 runs very cool anyway
See the wiki for howtos

Parking sensors, yes, could be the wiring, for some reason, even though nothing should be moving, the wires disintegrate behind the bumper. Or just a matter of chasing the broken sensors with a good one (swap sensors and test). Of course this is a bit easier with a diagnostic tool. .

Thanks for the warm welcome and kind words about Ronnie, folks. Tis appreciated. Got the rear bumper off today and after checking the wiring loom and finding it to be, fine. I narrowed in on the two sensors identified by the Icarsoft LR V2 Thumbs Up as being faulty, returning DTCs. Once I'd swapped them around to double check all the wiring was good with the two working sensors. I ordered a couple of pattern part sensors from Ebay for £25 delivered. OE sensors are £97 each, which is a bit salty, and Brit Part were £35 each. Hopefully once the new sensors are fitted it all be working once more. There was also a DTC showing for the NSF outer left sensor, but that seems to have cleared and stayed clear? Hope so as I'd rather not have to take the front bumper off too.

Here's Ronnie laid up with his rear end hanging off in drydock for now...

Thanks. I changed in the internals of the EGR yin with a Circoli BMW styley yin as it was cheaper and it made little if any difference. Think I'll try a backflush and coolant change before considering the motor stat as I think the waterpump is replaced at the same time? As you say the big BMW lump runs cool being a diesel equipped with a viscous fan and this aint no hot climate.

I have, when testing the performance parameters of the vehicle Thumbs Up seen the temp guage reach very nearly halfway but it doesn't stay there long when back to a more appropriate cruising speed.

More on this story, later....
