Hi All,
I'm torn. I'm still researching a 4.2 SC L322. Ideally I'd like a MY07 for the interior upgrades and the snazzy electric handbrake etc. However, im seeing a lot of cross over at my price range, and some of the the 2006 models seem to be far better looked after for similar mileages.
So my question is: Are they actually any different to drive on the road? I understand that the 07 ones had an e-diff as standard, and you may be lucky and get that on a late 06, but does that make much difference in the real world? Is the actual function of the terrain response on the later models that obvious when you're behind the wheel? If I'm honest with myself I probably won't be doing a great deal of off-roading.......

Looking forward to some sage advice......

Oh, and PS: is there one particular insurer that people tend to go for with good deals on the Rangies? I'm 51, clean license and live in the sticks. Full no claims.

I never even bother putting the handbrake on myself, just put it in park unless I’m on a steep hill so the handbrake wouldn’t bother me.

At this age you’re shopping in a market where condition and service history are the most important. Buy right and you’ll hopefully buy once. I have a 2007 but I’d happily have a 2006 if it was right.

Thanks for your reply, yes I know about buying right , and that's why I'm getting swayed towards the better maintained machines. However, I'm really intrigued to know how different (if at all) they are on the road, and if its worth just sitting around until the right 07 comes along. I'd be far happier compromising on my vanity for the interiors if the driving experience is the same.

I'm in the same position as you and going purely on condition and history.

I test drove a low mileage 07 last week and the general feel and condition felt like it had a quite a hard life. By comparison, the E class Merc of the same age that I drove to it felt rock solid.

Finding a good one seems hard enough without worrying about specific years. I've no doubt the facelift is better equipped with a slightly nicer cabin, but I wouldn't turn down the pre facelift if it's the right car. The only slight consideration for me is getting a pre facelift car that's still in the higher tax bracket. If I have to pay the full £570 a year, I want the newer cabin.

Yes I've read through that thanks. -Also done the usual google and youtube stuff. What I'm not clear on is the driving experience,(from one to the other) or what additional capabilities the terrain response system brought. I know It's subjective and I'll have to drive a few of them, but I wondered what the experiences of forum members are. (You lot seem to be a brainy bunch!)

Yep, I hear you. It'll be the last car I buy for a while I suspect. I'd like the newer cabin, but I have to be realistic with my price range. I'd hope not to have the "what if" niggle if I go for the 2006, but I'd feel a lot better knowing the driivng experience wasn't any different as ultimately that's more important to me.

Trouble is any comparison I'd offer won't help you, and I suspect others may have a similar issue -- you can't really compare an 04 plate 4.4 BMW engined petrol/lpg Vogue SE, with an 11 plate 4.4 TDV8 engined Vogue SE, though I enjoy the diesel better than the petrol

I’d suggest you go and drive a 2006 and see how it compares. If I had to guess I’d say you wouldn’t notice any difference

I'm not sure how it applies to the Supercharged model, but when I was looking for an L322 & decided around 2006 / 2007 was the right price range, it was interesting that all UK petrol 2006s and all the early 2007 cars I saw were 2006MY spec. cars, whereas 2007MY spec. came in on the Diesel from August 2006.
I think a lot of 2006 petrol variants were produced, but the stock wasn't sold off until mid 2007. 2007MY stock was then being sold.
Probably, the production of Diesels matched the UK sales, so 2007MY specs came in as expected in 2006. Paul,
