Spain 2010 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Santorini Black
Rattle when accelerating fast from stand

I am experiencing a rattle, somewhere in the back when accelerating fast. When accelerating and turning (both left & right) it happens even when lower "force" is used.
It looks like it is coming from the drive train (diff or transfer box), but not easy to point exactly. The noise is only heard when accelerating from stand, both in 1st and 2nd gear. I do not have the idea that the sound is there when accelerating fast at higher speeds. It also looks like it is happening when less force is used when I have drive for a longer period (75+kms journey).

Any ideas what to investigate or look at? RR Vogue, 4.4 TDV8, 10/2010, Santorini Black

Hi Stan,

Thank you for the response.
We renewed all rear brake pads and checked the disc brake plate. This is correct and fixed.
It does not sounds like an exhaust that "is moving around". It really sounds like a rattle of metal gears that have some backlash ..... It only appears when using full throttle and not when departing in a normal way. It happens with less throttle when turning and accelerating at the same time.
Is there a limited lock in the rear diff? Or could there be an issue with the lock in the rear diff?
No additional noises or sounds form the rear diff in normal operation. RR Vogue, 4.4 TDV8, 10/2010, Santorini Black

Hi WideRave, did you figure out what caused the noise / rattle? I experience the same in our L322 TDV8.

Hi Eirik,

No did not find anything nor received feedback. The garage also relates this sound to brake plates or exhaust. It is still making the sound somtimes, live in an area with more mountains, I do believe it is harmless .... We will se.

I had a rattle with my Westie when accelerating, it was a loose aluminim exhuast shield, so an easy fix. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography
