High Level Brake Light

Just been told mine is not working.

As they are LEDS, in will not be a bulb.

So anyone:
Know how toy get at it?
Where it is fed from?
Cable route?

Oh and best place to get a replacement, if I need 1.

Cheers

How did you sort this in the end? I note mine is not working at all either. In fact, it may not have worked since I got the car in November last.

Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks

Not sure what help I can be but the spoiler is removed by opening the top hatch and undoing the 3 nuts at the base of the hatch by the hinges. Thing their 10mm. Shut the hatch and stand on the lower and pull the spoiler towards you. Then lift up. Becarefull as the rear light cable is only short. That will give you access to the rear light. The wording comes from inside so you willneed to remove the top upper trim peice. That just pulls off straight. Search my old posts as I posted a few pics from the weekend when I fixed my rear washer/wiper. Put a few pics up that may help.

Thanks oodathort. Is this another of the common faults do you think? I know its only a £65 part from LR, it just ticks me off when I think the car cost its original owner 68k 7yrs and 4 months ago. I have just replaced the heater hedgehog then the rear wiper motor that had turned to rusty mush inside due to another common fault. Sorry, whining now, I will go for a quick blast and forget its little foibles!! :)Further thought -I think Dan made this point once over-the bits just mentioned are all BM sourced !

Getting to the light unit is straight forward. Working at the top edge of the tailgate inside, remove the three 10mm hexhead bolts securing the spoiler, and disconnect the two-wire multiplug from the loom. Release the wiring clips. Working outside, slide the spoiler rearwards and off its mountings. Pull the cable grommet out of the hole in the roof, release the cable carefully and then remove the spoiler off the roof.
I rested the spoiler on the carpeted tailgate and removed four T20 torx screws, then fed the cable throgh the slot in the spoiler and the light is now free.

When refitting, make sure the cable grommet is sealing the hole in the roof.

When I got mine off, it was full of water and had turned to rubbish inside. You may think that ensuring the light unit remained waterproof would have been a priority for Hella, but heyho.

When I pick the new one up, I will apply some clear sealer round the edges, out of sight, before fitting. Thumbs Up
