NS Rear Passenger Window Failure

Today my better half closed the ns rear passenger door and we heard a crunching noise - sounded a bit like plastic breaking/being shut in the door. Tonight I realised that the window was open so tried to close it from the drivers door switch - it would lower further but not raise. You can hear a crunching/grinding noise when you try to raise it. You can manually pull the window pane up but it doesn't stay in place for long once driving.

I have never taken a door apart on a car - apart from a 73 VW Beetle, but I'm guessing this is probably something to do with the window regulator?

Can anybody advise on what it is that fails and if it is a case of repair or replace. Are there any DIY posts showing how to do it?

Thanks in advance for any help. Need to get this fixed pronto as it's the family car and we have a newborn baby to ferry around to various appointments. Big Cry

Thumbs Up

Removing the door card (rear) can be found in the wiki

A temporary solution might be to jam a piece of wood in there to hold the glass up (I did this once in a Volvo 240)

Get the workshop manual for your car from links in the wiki. I doubt whether things changed much with the facelift so the RAVE manual may also provide a better description of what to do. .

Probably the wire has snapped on the regulator or a pulley come off. There’s lots of advice on here about doing it. Get a second hand reg if you don’t want the cost. They’re just as good imho.

+1 to the above two posters.

If you don't have them buy a set of trim removal tools, available on the net, at Machine Mart etc. Using screwdrivers or other improvised tools is inviting damage. Cheers

This may help, altough it's an earlier car.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I found a video on you-tube that I used in the end. Link below. I bought a used regulator from ebay for £35. Took me about 2.5hrs to do, as I took it slow and steady. This also included 30mins spent fishing out a bolt with a magnet that I dropped down into the door and lodged between the door skins at the bottom. The old regulator wire had separated in the housing that joins the wire. The plastic cover had snapped and come off. Have no idea how it happened.
