When you change the oil filter on the 4.4 TDV8, how do you remove the “cage” on the old one.
Terrified I’m going to break some thing

Can anyone advise please?

I did mine yesterday and the cage stayed in the filter case? so should pull out easily look at your new filter you will see that there is nothing to hold it. just `O` ring

Not sure you have the correct filter there?

The existing filter was a FRAM CH11475ECO
And was a very tight fit on the cage.
Replaced with Land Rover original LR022896, which is a much looser fit on the cage.
Double checked with Duckworth parts, they assured me it is the correct one for my car.

I am surprised you still have engine to change filter on. what you have there is cheap oil filter that has collapsed and is preventing you from removing cage from it. and your new filter looks like same s t cardboard filter.

I have been buying the Mahle filters which it says are genuine part.
I will be changing it again after the Easter holiday, so will take pictures of old and new.

I have now replaced,with genuine Land Rover filter, you can’t get better than that.....can You?

The filter on the right is the new genuine LR one
Nino, I think that’s the idea of the cage, to stop the filter element collapsing under pressure.

I don't think you can go wrong with a genuine part -- but further to my comment that MANN don't make a filter for the 4.4 TDV8, they don't list one, see here: -

That’s exactly what I found when Nino mentioned the Mann filter number, it’s listed for Mercedes.
Last Friday, I was in panic mode, as I had pumped the oil out, went to fit filter, only to find that I had been sent a 3.6 one.
As such was desperate to get the correct filter and O ring, Duckworth parts were excellent, and it arrived Tuesday morning,
Express delivery to France more expensive than filter.
