Noticed a creaking squeaking noise when travelling with window open from my '07 4.2 SC. doesn't do it over speed bumps its on mainly smoother roads, tried coasting in neutral and still there so not engine related, sounds like a dry pivot on some part of suspension think its rear but difficult to tell, any suggestions??????

I've heard it be anything from front ball-joints sounding like it's coming from the rear, to rear upper/lower rose joints, to subframe bushes.

The rose joint creak has been likened to an old pram. you may be able to douse the joints in a PTFE spray, this is obviously a temporary solution, but can help you identify the culprit by being systematic.

Sorry I can't be more definite than this but as I say I've heard sounds telegraphing around the vehicle. I've seen people on here poke a tiny hole in a ball-joint gaiter, flood it with spray and seal the hole with silicone, then drive round a bit to let it penetrate and see if it helps. Formerly happymadison1978

Just had a poke underneath with some PTFE spray on rear suspension joints see if it quietens it, as you say trial and error to try locate it, bloody annoying though!!

Nothing like wafting around in a luxury vehicle that sounds like an old camp bed!

On ours it was the rear hub upper and lower rose joints - easy job with the right tools

I had the old squeaky pram issue last summer. Would come and go depending on whether it was dry or damp weather and if I'd sprayed my rear bushes and rose joints. Convinced it was the bushes but my local indy identified it as the handbrake cable rubbing. Repositioned and insulated the cable and been squeak free ever since. Might be worth a check

I have the same problem nearside rear, although mine does it on bumps at slow speed as well. I had the top and bottom hub bushes replaced a couple of months ago to try and cure it, but it still squeaks.

I also checked the handbrake cable after reading previous comments, but couldn't see anything obvious rubbing. Beginning to suspect inner suspension bushes as I can't really hear it with the window open. Wherever it is though, it's driving me mad!  David

Don’t think it’ll be handbrake cables as mines got the electric version, not been out since sprayed it so who knows , might try local Indy see if they can pinpoint it.

Stu, its the bush on the rear suspension.. easy way to diagnose is to pump some silicone grease through the rubber. Current:

Rear inner upper and lower wishbone bushes can also be a cause of squeaking .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember
