Missing service - Is it a problem?

Hi All,

I've just put a deposit down on a 2016 L405, and as we were finishing up I asked to see the service history.

On the print out they obtained the car was serviced at 8 miles and then at 30k 12 months later, then 40k a week ago.

I'm not buying the car from a main dealer but a very large independent.

Could there be a problem with warranties if the wasn't correct servicing? Has anybody been refused warranty work due to incorrect servicing?

Many thanks in advance.

Warranty companies don’t like paying money out - I’d expect that they would refuse anything that could remotely be affected by an incorrect service interval.

So my logic would say gearbox, diffs etc covered but engine not - however you’d need to read the warranty terms carefully and I’d likely ask them to confirm in writing up front any exclusions.

The missed service may have been done - just not uploaded to the LR Service Portal. Perhaps check with the previous owner ? 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Similar thing happened to me when I bought mine (though mine was from a LR main dealer... who were no help whatsoever). There was a missing service from the online log.

I managed to contact the previous owner who said he had had it fully serviced as per schedule and he could give me dates and places. I contacted the missing servicing dealer who sent me a copy of the missing service invoice and they also updated the LR online system.

Had to do this all off my own bat as the SELLING dealer weren't prepared to lift a finger despite selling it as a "used approved car". Glad I did too as I needed a new engine 6 months later and feel sure the warranty company would have just laughed if I didn't provide evidence otherwise.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm told the car is saying it did have the service but nobody can find evidence of it.

The original owner was a director of a big car dealer group so they probably serviced it internally and never had any paperwork for it.

Hey ho and fingers crossed there aren't any come backs to bite me.
