Hi I have just bought my first range rover a TDV8.
I see a lot of talk about the iid tool.
I have always done all the spanner work on my cars myself, so Is it really worth the expense or is there other alternatives?

Short answer is yes -- even if you just like to 'play' with configurations -- but peace of mind that you can diagnose to a very accurate degree is upper most for me. Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I also find the IDTool worth it and I try to avoid spanner work, for example I took the RR into a main dealer to have the config changed so the doors locked automatically when vehicle moves off - that will be £120 sir, so bought IDTool - I recently set the front LEDs to be on all the time, not DRLs but I like it, cost me nothing. I'm sure I remember messing with ride heights and other locking options again cost me nothing - hours of endless fun  Geoff

It's tied to your VIN, but you can also move the IID to a new FF if you change the car. Circa £60 for the new VIN license. Also will read and clear faults on another vehicle.

Resale price is very good, especially on here. And the customer service from GAP has to be experienced to believe.

Saved me about £250 on diagnosis so far, and gets you home if a fault comes up that can be safely cleared. Cheers

Yes, yes, yes and yes again. I'm a non tech, no desire to become one but that tool is worth more than most indys and dealers here in France. Saved me approx. 1200 euro in the week after I bought it. Stealer diagnosed total compressor and eas faillure, turned out I could repair it with the tool and the help of Gap.
