Pixel LED intelligent headlights

First post!

- I've never had a RR (or any LR product). I've been thinking about a late model Full Fat Autobiography SDV8.

The "intelligent" pixel headlights are something I would like - is there a specific build date when they were automatically part of the Autobiography spec or is it not that simple?

Mike

Hello and welcome!

You need 2018 model year onwards, available from late 2017. This facelift year may attract a premium over the 2017 MY with xenons etc but also heaps of other ‘enhancements’. The most noticeable extrerior change are the headlights, grille and exhaust finishers. The most noticeable interior changes are seat controls on door card (a la Mercedes) and the twin touch screens in the centre console.

Some late 2017 and early 2018 registered cars are the prior model year, but they look so different it’s not hard to tell at a glance.

Many thanks for the welcome and for your very helpful reply - that makes sense now, I've looked through a batch of adverts on auto trader and I can see the 2018 registered vehicles fall into two clearly different groups when examined from the front

Have to say the pixel lights are great. High beam assist just doesn't work pre 2018, whereas I've never had a problem with my MY18. A much wider spread, brighter and amazing to watch.

The matrix lights on a 400e I had recently were brilliant, with intelligent high beem... Awesome tech and reason enough for me to buy an 18 over a 17my...

I’ve yet to drive a pixel plus 18my so cannot comment, but they must be amazing for the added cost over matrix... Whistle

The pixel LEDs are fantastic - really bright, constantly shifting to adjust for cars in front and oncoming traffic. They are very bright on full beam as well, and I would not go for the laser LED because the cost is not worth it, since they only operate at high speed. In reality, so few roads are straight for 500m+ AND require full beam, so not worth it IMHO. I regularly use a country road which is straight for a full mile, and has no houses or street lights, and I have never felt the need to have brighter headlights.

I love the way the full beam comes on going down the country lanes over 25mph, they just "wash" over the whole road.

First time they did it I wondered what was going on. Had the car for 10 months now and am still amazed by it!! All LR cars from 1984

Have a look at the LR configurator, AFAIK the laser lights are an extra at every level (except perhaps SVO), cost about £1000. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I've also been amazed by these headlights on my new L405 - the way that they open out in front of you is wonderful to watch. The auto full beam on my last L405 were pretty unreliable - I quickly stopped using them, but these seem to be perfect.

What is the difference between AFS (adaptive front lighting) and ADB (adaptive driving beam)? I think I've got the latter but wasn't sure about the former. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

You have AFS and Auto High Beam Assist (AHBA). Both are activated when Auto is selected on the light stalk. All LR cars from 1984

stan, I think from MY18 on they all have pixel matrix LEDs, but the laser lights are £1000 odd extra. Only Range Rovers since 1988

There’s matrix led , pixel led, and then pixel laser led.
The costs and availability depends on which model and engine one selects on the configurator.
