L405 on Brittany Ferries

Does anybody have experience of taking their L405 on a Brittany Ferry. In particular, with the car in the lowest suspension setting, can you get away with it being 1.83m or less? The height of the L405 is given as 1.835m in Wikipedia and 1.869mm on the Land Rover website - I’m assuming the latter includes the roof aerial - but I’m assuming these are at normal ride height? So in the lowest suspension setting the roof height would be 1.83m or less?

The length is 4999mm, so under the 5.0m length restriction before paying extra.

I look forward to hearing about any experience you all may have.

Not done the ferry, but it just gets under the 1.85m barrier at the tunnel when lowered - the barrier at the entrance seems to be the lowest point, much more headroom on the actual train.

I've not stopped to measure, there may be another 2cm - It will be very close Neutral

I think the leading edge of the roof is about the same height as the antenna on the L405 - unlike the L322 where it stands higher - the L405 roof drops towards the back.

Not 405 but similar issue with my 322 .
I always get a computer generated email telling me that its too high and I'll be charged a supplement.
I always just ring them up tell them I can lower it with a tool I have (iid) and they tell me ok but it may get measured to check.
Its never been checked yet.
Enjiy yourctrip...

If you do multiple trips ie 10 a year you can buy a block which covers all types of sizes I travel by car and caravan so two tickets each way = four all the same price if I do it twice a year x 8 they class the caravan as a car no matter what the size?

I just booked my FFRR on Brittany and did the over 1.83m. I didn’t get charged anything additional. This was on the Portsmouth to St Malo. It’s an expensive crossing. And better than sawing the aerial off at check in. Current: L460 Autobiography D350 2023, Defender D240 HSE 2020, Defender 110 Adventure 2015, Defender 90 XS 2012, Lightweight Ser III 1975, Aston Martin DBS Manual 2008

We booked the Portsmouth to Caen trip with the 405 originally, then decided to take the 322 instead and they then sent us a message requesting an extra charge since the 322 is higher (ours even has a roof rack and lights)
So they know what is what, but you should get away with the 405 since, even if they check the height on site, you could simply put it in access mode at the booth. Thumbs Up l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

For future reference, I just got around to measuring accurately the height of my L405 in the parked suspension setting and it is 180cm. So fits comfortably under the 183cm restriction. My return ferry booking is on one where there is no option to have a vehicle with a height of more than 183cm. Hope this is useful to others.

How did you measure it accurately?

Started car, put in lock down mode, got wife to balance a long spirit level on top of the highest point of the roof aerial so that level, then measured from the ground to spirit level. It was exactly 180cm. Also checked this was the high point by doing the same at the front of the roof, which it was.

Brittany ferries new website will warm you when booking if the vehicle details entered don’t match its own database of vehicle dimensions. Theythen reserve the right to charge you the correct amount or worse case scenario turn you away from a full sailing. Realistically, it’s only on st.malo and some of the Spanish routes where it could be an issue Soave wise. I’ve been checked for dimensions when towing a caravan. They are following low cost airlines with their clampdown in baggage policies I guess. If you can lower it at check in great but do be aware the height limit is there for good reason. Up to 1.85 is normally ok but undulating decks and speed when disembarking can be “interesting “

Not 405 but L322, Been booking trip Portsmouth to St Malo. I tried repeatedly to complete application form declaring over height and every time I got to putting in vehicle registration it swapped it back to under height booking and would not let me declare it over height. Very weird so rang head office who said I must declare it, told em I could not, gave them my registration and they said OH! ok then go for it. We shall see!!
