I just collected up my 3 month old L405 from the Land Rover dealer yesterday, and on arriving home I've noticed a paint chip. I can't believe I didn't notice it during the handover - I went around the car very closely and pointed out a couple of scratches which they polished out, but missed this chip.

Should I insist that the dealer fixes this? I know that it's not a new car, but it's only a few months old, and I paid a lot of money for it.

Any advice appreciated.

How can you insist? How do you know it hasn’t happened during you driving it? Why should the dealer sort it, in what way do you feel it’s their responsibility? BMW i3 Electric Car

Thanks for the reply. I know it didn't happen when driving it home - it's on the passenger door - it's been opened into a wall.

Obviously I can't prove that I didn't do it, but I know I didn't as I noticed it when I opened the door for the first time. If I'd noticed it when purchasing the car, I'd have pointed it out and I'd expect some reduction in the price.

But fair enough, maybe I'm being naive to think I should not expect such a thing on a nearly new car costing over £100k. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

Feel your pain, but at the end of the day, take it on the chin, you can't prove either way.

Ask them. Say that you only noticed it when you got the car home. The worst they can do is say no but, in all probability, they will probably offer to sort it for you.

If I were you and if it's not just a superficial mark, I would call in to your dealer (straightaway!!), and providing you have a good relationship with them, I'd point out the mark and ask them if they could do anything to help?

No point in going in feeling hard-done-by, but a tactful approach might go a long way. I always think "what would I do if a customer came in and asked". If I got on well with him/her, I'd do all I could to help.

Thanks all for the replies. I did email them yesterday with a picture of the mark, but have not heard back yet.

The dealer isn't local to me (4 hour round trip) so I can't drop in with it.

I had something similar with my last Range Rover, but the difference there was that I spotted it at the pick up and they sent a mobile paint chap over who did a great job fixing it.

Honestly, I am a bit fed up about it - my eye is drawn to the chip every time I look at the car! But if I can get it quickly fixed in the way my last car was fixed, then I'll be happy, regardless of who pays for it. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

I’d be gutted and I feel your pain. When I pick a car up, rental or purchase I walk round it slowly taking a video with my phone. It’s saved me this sort of grief several times. BMW i3 Electric Car

Good point about filming the car check - wish I'd done that!

I'm getting a quote from a local repair group that I've used before, and depending on how much that is, I'll perhaps approach the dealer and see if we can reach some agreement.

Of course, it's not a new car, so I guess I should not expect perfection, but Land Rover talk about their "165 point check" on Approved Used vehicles which is supposed to include a paint inspection, so I'd have expected them to see the chip and fix it themselves, ahead of sale.

I noticed a stone chip on the bonnet of my brand new SVR when i collected it. I mentioned it to the dealer who did not say much, was not too bothered anyway as i knew my body shop would sort it out better than them anyway as so they did.

Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction one way or another OP. Main thing is don't let it spoil your enjoyment of an amazing vehicle. Perhaps the supplying dealer would cover the cost of rectification locally or at least contribute. Other than that what's your thoughts on the car itself... Current

Hi - thanks for the replies. Yes, the dealer did get back to me and were apologetic for not having seen the chip. They also offered to fix it so all good. To your point Bigfella70, the main thing is that I'm loving the car. Will post on separate thread about how it's going! 2024 Range Rover P550e AB
