Intermittently, engine fault appears, forward sensor not available and cruise control disabled. FFRR 4.4 TDV8.

Power loss and lose control via accelerator pedal. Effectively limp mode ish as can trundle along motorway at c. 42mph on c. 1200 revs. No throttle response.

Pull over and lock, alarm and leave car.

Leave for min 7/8 mins and ‘reboot’ car.

Sometimes fault cleared, sometimes not but large degree of ‘sluggish’ accelerator response and can drive home. Leave overnight, no issues and fault cleared.

LR computer said ‘intermittent engine fault’ and indicated replacement throttle body was the issue. LR can’t find fault w throttle body so reset everything. Next day, fault returns 58 miles away up the M5!,

Very vague descrpition but any ideas guys and girls?? Anyone seen something similar?

Sounds more like throttle potentiometer (throttle pedal) than throttle body, although the fault it occurs while using cruise control then the throttle butterfly could be being operated to increase exhaust gas flow through the EGR valve.

During problem, in Neutral and parked up, engine sat up at 1200 revs unless I pressed the foot brake. On pressing brake pedal, engine dropped back to normal idle at c 700 revs. In drive and in traffic, this got interesting with the car trying to ‘surge’ forward!!

Hi Slaav, check the butterfly flap in the housing.........my 11 plate 4.4 tdv8 was gunged up with loads of c !!
Cleaned out with carb cleaner and scraped off gunge (it was that bad), cleaned with a soft cloth and all was good in the world again.

Easy to check and have a look at.......may be your problem.

^ +1 with GraemeS and cozzy on this. Mine had a lot of gunge when I changed the short plenum hoses. Also clean the MAP sensor, just behind the throttle body on top of the plenum.

In my case the problem was not the throttle potentiometer, but the throttle body. This thread may assist a little.

After lots of searching and checking with the IID etc changed the throttle body for new and so far, so good. Cheers

I would do some experimenting with the brake and accelerator pedals to see if the accelerator can be made to misbehave, possibly with a different fault code that might assist in finding the culprit.
