When you say drain update thing... what is that? Do they do the update as part of fixing the blown turbo? I am worried mine will go again. Mine has now been away for 2 weeks. No call from JLR Customer Care got 8 days. No call from my dealer... Why isn't it fixed after 2 weeks, that's just poor.

My SDV 8 should be fixed this week. I understand the changes to the oil pipe allows oil not to stand in the turbo, by placing a downward bend in the oil line. This is my understanding but may be far from accurate. |

Turbos can fail on any motor, wondering what type of failure, must have been bearing to get metal into the oil system. Usually this type of failure would cause a pretty quick shutdown. |

It was pretty sudden. Total loss of power in 10 to 15 seconds. Engine started shaking the whole front end of the car. More or less had to coast onto the hard shoulder with significant loss of power. It felt a catastrophic and quick mechanical failure. Perhaps a dropped Valve that went out the exhaust and destroyed the turbo and engine. Can't see turbo failure doing the damage you describe, high pressure failure would mean the blades caught in the intercooler. So it would seem to me that the turbo is blamed for some other catastrophic failure. |

That would make more sense. As it felt like it was running on a few cylinders less than 8 ... will call the dealer this week if they don’t call me. Thinking about that statement I know who will be calling who! Update on blown turbo. Fragments of metal found in my engine so a new engine being installed... currently half way through that. Will definitely be extending my warranty... The extended warranty should be cheaper with a new engine Current: L460 Autobiography D350 2023, Defender D240 HSE 2020, Defender 110 Adventure 2015, Defender 90 XS 2012, Lightweight Ser III 1975, Aston Martin DBS Manual 2008

There seems to be too many SDV8 failures lately. ______________________________

This is really interesting! Been thinking of upgrading from my L322 TD6 to a late L322 TDV8 or early L405 TDV8.

Don't worry, you've just got a bout of forumitis, a contagious condition brought on by anxiety generated by reading the symptoms of a few whilst ignoring the pleasures of the many. It's a common condition, spread by exposure to the internet, but can be cured by clicking the large X in the top right hand corner of your screen, and replacing it with a big leather-bound "O" that makes your car do what you tell it. Diesels will be around for a good few years yet, especially the new, Euro 6 compliant cars. If there's to be a diesel pogrom, it'll be the old smokers that get banished to the Gulags. |
