Unsure on the inhibitor type, but if the ECU thinks that it's in gear, It will not feed the starter. HDC can display on a low battery, so may be just coming on whilst the drain to start it. I would't worry about that at the moment (unless it doesn't extinguish).

My 2004 L322 does it occasionally. I move the gearlever and it starts. I suspect the XYZ switch is out of adjustment after the transmission replacement.

Either it’s the park inhibitor, where the gearbox isn’t quite recognising P or the selector cable needs liubing up under the car. Have a search is fairly common to have gearstick position probmlems in relation to what gear it’s actually in. A good spray of grease and a wiggle about will normally free it up. https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/post87201.html#87201, There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Perfect, many thanks for all the replies so far. Gives me plenty to look at when I get home again and hopefully get to the bottom of it.

My XYZ switch went and cost me a shade under £600 inc labour at a local LR Specialist - only agreed cos he said he would fit a genuine part and I made my credit card company agree to pay the bill. Fitted a pattern part and managed to break my window switch in the process - another £300 . Never been back there since. |

Bruno were you experiencing similar symptoms to me then and did the XYZ switch fix it? |

The 5-speed (bruno22rf) and 6-speed (gav525) transmissions have completely different types of inhibitor switch with the 5-speed one being mounted externally

Sorry I didn't spot that yours is a different model - but yes, mine had a similar fault somedays it was fine, others you had to move the gear selector up and down a couple of times before the engine got the message that it was in neutral - occasionally it would go into restricted mode whilst driving. |

OK so yesterday morning in the snow when the wife needed the RR most, it completely let her down. I'm still away until next week so trying to get as much info from her as possible.
