When my L322 went for service or repair at the dealers they used to wash it, but never did the roof until I mischeviously asked if doing the roof was extra. After that they made the effort, but I don’t think I was popular with the valeting operative.

If washing the car myself, I always do the roof, but I’m 6’2”” with long arms. That plus access mode and a long handled soft brush make it easier. Have yet to wash the L405 mind, only had it 4 months, so not dirty enough yet!

Wikipedia says that the average height of butlers is only five foot tall, hence the roofs not being washed..... Mr. Green

My desk at work looks down on a busy road. I often see a fattie go by which appears to have most of the lacquer missing off the roof. Looks a state from above but probably fine from street level. This always gives me the encouragement needed to get the step ladder out. 2011 5.0 S/C

I have one of those work platforms from Screwfix that's about 2 foot high and 4 foot long, which is ideal for te job. And yes, everytime I wash it (which currently isn't too often, I must admit). 2004 Vogue TD6 - Remapped Smile

Domestic servants are specifically excluded from the benefits of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

The fact it was written by a Lord (Robens) I'm sure had nothing to do with this slight deviation from common sense.

Therefore feel free to equip him with a one legged barstool for the task, good enough for him too.

I'm another who washes the roof every single time - but I only wash the car about 4 times per year - next time will be Easter when it gets to Bordeaux en route back to England.

Winter there's too much Censored on the roads - particularly as I live in the snow - and in the summer the flies love to stick to my front bumper, so I wax it at the start of summer then just let them pile up.

I have a folding aluminium step which is great for doing the roof Thumbs Up

I can’t reach my roof. And I can’t use my stepladder because my drive slopes and the Range has gouged a ruddy great pothole in it. (It’s on the list of things to fix!)

So yeah, I cheated the other day - one of the blokes at the Polish car wash is 6 foot 6 so I got them to wash it. Cool
