I had the service carried out in October by Team Valley Land Rover an official LR Service Centre and the cost was £420! It's expensive as they have to renew the dynamic response fluid reservoir for some reason Cheers Ian

The Approx £900 inc vat is the LR recommended service plus extra works. That why it cost more than the £545 shown in the fixed price list.

I've taken out a service plan with my local independent (MJ Fews) at a cost of £42pcm. Good value. All LR cars from 1984

Land Rover have a deal on for cars over 3 years old. A 5 year service is a minor one if your car has a low mileage as in your case. The cost should be £415. Just booked mine in for this price. |

I assume your car has been serviced once every year on/around its birthday so far. Therefore at 5 years and your mileage you should only need an interim service (£415). Ask them what things they are going to do and compare that with what is on the list on the LR website for the types of services. They maybe doing things that a 60k mile car would need but not one at 18k. However, if changing the transfer box oil and dynamic response fluid is needed because they degrade over time (like brake fluid) then you would have to pay on top of the £415 for this. I was not told that I needed these. |

So based on this, as the OP has been told by the dealer, one should have a dynamic response fluid changed and the transfer box oil changed at 60 months. This would be on top of the £415 but surely this can't get anywhere near the £900 total you were quoted? The question remains whether it is really necessary to have these fluids changed at 18k miles. If they degrade as a function of time then I suppose they should be. Any tech savvy people have a view on this? I was told I didn't need anything else but the basic service but they could quite possibly tell me something different once they have my car with them and they think they will get the business! |
