Need another car - Advice appreciated

So due to a change in business circumstance I will be running up and down to that England for the next 6/12 months, I will be doing circa 30/40K miles per year as a guesstimate. What vehicle is the question, must haves;
*Four wheel drive (so I can guarantee getting home, top of a hill, remote farm, single lanes etc.)
*4 doors
*Diesel

Budget about £25K and fuel costs covered but not to silly amounts and residual value not a big issue either.

Been looking at the usual suspects, Audi, Merc etc but still cant get past a 4.4 TDV8, I can get the man maths to work but thought I would ask you kind lot, 4 wheel drive seems to be my problem......

Thanks

I think you've answered your own question, no?

20k will get you a lovely 2011/2012 4.4TDV8 which will take you up and down the country beautifully and also getting you 38mpg on the motorway.

Leaving you 5k to put in a maintenance pot.

. Cheers, Greg

I frequently travel from Kent to Bristol, Manchester and Newcastle and get about 35-40 mpg. The car is faultless (4.4 TDV8 Westminster) and I have not had any issues in the two years of ownership and 20k miles. I can't think of a better way to travel!!

Why do you need 4wd for what is presumably motorway miles, winter tyres are pretty good these days!?

He is doing 30k/40k miles a year - doing that amount of miles in a vulnerable conventional car wouldn’t be much fun. I would also go the RR route for this purpose. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

There’s wanting to get a Range Rover and there’s asking for recommendations for a car to do the same.

I think this is the former Laughing

Oddly enough, I do that kind of annual mileage and spending all that time in something ordinary seems like a complete waste of good driving hours to me Thumbs Up

Can you get an S class 4matic over here? That would be my wild card after an A8 and a TDV8. Obviously I would go for the fatty and a Green Flag membership myself!

Except that the OP was asking about alternatives with 4WD. I had an A8 quattro for 6 years, it was utterly brilliant in every way. Graham

Graham, A8 is my main competitor, have had Audis for years, wife has an a4 quattro convertible, my main concern for whatever car is knowing I can jump in it and it will get me there, that is the point the RR falls down on however I am not sure any of the other marques are markedly better Thumbs Up
