I know you wanted petrol but I went onto the RR site to check out diesel AB’S EXPECTING a price of around 80k

There is virtually nothing available and prices are 90ish +. A year ago there was always 50plus AB’S diesel priced £75-100

Seems the market is tighter than a ducks

They are laying people off rather than shifting cars. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

I just think at 100k Bill I'd rather buy a new shape and not get impacted on depreciation of the 17 plate shape. WBAC is tough I know but it cant be 30k off????? all smug in my new plug!

I think for valuations parkers is more realistic. If you subscribe you can adjust mileage and add some extras. The adjusted mileage valuation was what I got from dealers in px for my sdv8 and was about 10% higher than wbac

Re the grey sva it sounds like a good one and has ppf fitted I was told. Was interested myself but have decided to go for black with the same cirrus/ebony interior

As someone who is looking to buy a used L405 Currently 16/17, the lack of appetite from main dealers has been an eye opener, the response I got from my local main dealer to my statement I didn’t feel the car compares favourably to other approved used cars was well we employ someone full time to check and make sure our cars are competitive. I laughed.

I also continued laughing at the level of prep on an V8 Autobography, it was awful, scratches, dirty etc.

I have done a bunch of reading on here and I am by no means alone!

Will keep hunting, in the meantime if anyone’s trading in any time soon let me know

TBH - to a vague negative comment, that's the response I'd give in their shoes

If you were saying I'm ready to buy - I like this car, but here's another very similar example at X dealer thats a slightly better spec and lower price - give me a reason not to go and buy that one - then they may be more receptive.

Alistair,, sorry but I don't agree with that idea that we should have to bait the salesman. They should be trained to qualify any person who they feel to be remotely interested and based on the results the should do their job and sell the car to the prospect. Why should we ask to be sold to? The stock on a dealers front should be prepared to a high standard and not the level that we often hear about on here but that's another story.
If my team sat back and waited for the phone to ring I'd be showing them the door

Yeah that would behave me engaged however it was delivered in a way that was like no that’s impossible..

Anyway, the car itself was truly a disgrace. The art of sales is to make both parties happy with the deal, being new to the brand it does feel like we don’t need to try hard as someone else will come along shortly so we won’t discount and don’t have to try to hard!

Most lr dealers in my experience don't even try. I reckon that's why high end Independent garages such as romans do well on the top of the range models

I walked into a dealer between Xmas and new year to enquire about a used sv autobiography they have listed, was told it was in their service centre and they would move it to the dealer and give me a call when it's available to view which sounded fine. Meantime despite the Xmas holidays it seems to have gone offf their website and auto trader so I guess it's been sold but no one has called to say that - and I don't expect they will bother

I'm amazed by how awful the dealers are. They don't return calls. they don't know the cars. They don't understand their customers.

It’s quite staggering, wrong spec, missing or listing key options incorrectly.

I would much rather buy privately but selling cars can be a massive hassle.

Once someone- think amazon or the like gets their head around the car business the traditional sales model will disappear!

Honest appraisals of condition etc, the market is such that they clearly don’t neeed to, so why bother.

Compared to so many other industries and it’s truly staggering- and this isn’t just a LR thing the whole industry needs a boot up the arse but LR and being such a premium brand has been an eye opener.

Make use of the dealership and service section - there you will find dealerships who can be bothered , as reviewed by forum members .Must admit good ones are very very few and far between unfortunately.
So disappointing - they often ruin the whole car buying process !

And thats the thing, I want to enjoy the experience as it will be 3 years before I do it again...... all smug in my new plug!
