As much as I love the big battle bus, it's moving on time for me. It's been traded in for .... A baby Evoque

Not a new one, but something a fair bit younger and most importantly, more economical.

whilst there was little wrong with it, the final straw was when I realised that I wasn't using the family car for family journeys cause of the thought of filling the thing up all the time. At that point it's not a family car really.

It's the 2nd l322 I've had and on thinking back, it's not been the same novelty second time round more like.just another vehicle which I've found surprising.

I'll no doubt find the ewok a lot different, but when the saving in fuel alone pays for 2/3 of the cost of getting the newer car, it's a bit done deal.

I think we all know where you are coming from Don ,but i suppose many of us just think of the mpg as our guilty pleasures .

Out of interest what MPG where you getting in the end ?

Probably averaged 16 to 17 overall. A fair mix of driving but a lot of short journeys day to day which hammered it down. On a run I would get about 21mpg. V8 or else ...

I feel your pain , however I reckon average l322 mpg with a 3.0 is probably around the 17/18 mpg around town .

Doubt if anyone gets 20+ ....not even my nan !

My avg is 27 with the 4.4.

But I do feel your pain. My M3 sits in the garage and the way I drive it I get about 15mpg, so it doesn’t go out much!! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

What economy are you expecting to get from the Evoque?

I'm not long here so sorry to see any one leave a good forum like this i come from p38 4.6 ownership, still have it to L322 4.4 lpg. The l322 is showing 16/17 around town and today 23 on a run I paid 59 ppl for LPG today so 46 petrol mpg ??? Love it.

Wish I had fitted my LPG kit to the p38 years ago lol good luck with the ejoke a friend of mine is selling hers after 5 years of ownership the mpg around town is appalling

I'm expecting mid 30s ... Gone for an auto. V8 or else ...

You'll need to change your strap line / footer to hmmmmmmmmmm?

I sold my 5.0SC a while ago, truly painful. Though I did constantly achieve just over 20mpg - over a 50,000 mile ownership.
I bought a new D4 run - out model (Graphite) late in 2016, and it was 'ok'. That easily achieved 30mpg all day long.
I am now into about nine months ownership of a D5 HSE LUX, bought from my main dealer, previously owned by JLR management. Now that's a fabulous car, and consistently achieved 35 - 38mpg, all sorts of roads. I have done 10,000 miles since May last year.
My lady wife has an Evoque, bought from the same dealer 18 months ago, all the toys, lovely car, and auto.
It will only achieve very early 30's - 32-34 if driven like a hearse. when she drives it, knocking around town, late 20's.

Well, a little feedback:

I think in reality ... I'm not missing the big RR , certainly not in a way where I've had doubts moving on. Overall, I'm happy with the change.

I'm actually feeling that in terms of space and environment for the driver, the evoque feels somehow roomier. It feels like there is notably more space / volume around my legs and arms. Its more open, airy etc. Its just better.

Ride wise ... mixed really. the L322 wafts along more, and rides through the pothole bumps better because of its heft, where the evoque reacts to them in a harsher manner ... but the evoque is better on speed bumps - especially on the rear axle. Maybe its the dynamic suspension / magneride dampers, dunno, but I really notice a difference.

Steering - the L322 is better. There is a damped weight to the L322 which on the evoque is missing when holding a straight line ... its not that there is a loose play in the setup, its more that when holding a straight line driving along, the resistence weight of the steering wheel goes light at top dead center. this weight / resistence then ramps up quickly (but smoothly) when you start to go off-centre and turn the wheel. The result being that your control of the wheel can almost shimmy or bounce (for lack of a better adjective) as you go between each edge of the resistance ramps. It actually goes away if you loosen your grip on the wheel and let it find its own way on a straight road rather than try to counter the wheel with micro adjustments by the driver. Hard to describe really, but something I've noticed.

Sound ... I miss the sound of the V8 ... its quite the tractor diesel sound compared to the old SC.

MPG - yeah, about 30mpg for running about. mid 30's on an A-road run. 40ish on a long motorway cruise. I'm still amazed at getting in the car and seeing the gauge up high. As someone said in a thread on here, the SC is the only car I know that uses fuel sitting still between being driven.

So overall, still happy. sorry for writing so much.

However, did a dump run the other day ... i do miss the old boot !  V8 or else ...
