Hi all, scratching my head a bit on this one...

Over the last few days the other half has been getting warning lights randomly coming on... active cornering lights, suspension etc.. I plugged it up and it had various voltage faults so stuck it on the charger and all seemed ok until yesterday when driving it lit up like a Christmas tree...
Again more voltage issues on IID so reset and re calibrated steering angle as it had lost that setting..
All fine this morning and then when she went to leave the stables earlier it would fire up and then die within a few seconds.
Now when you put the ignition on everything seems dead. Nothing when you turn to start at all. Centre display on instrument cluster comes on with ignition and you can cycle through mpg/range/time etc but rest of it (speedo, fuel etc) is completely dead. No ignition lights
Also no lights on gear selector or suspension etc, and climate is dead.
Infotainment screen and stereo work fine.

Battery seems fine on the tester and currently on charge again but no change...

Any ideas?

I wondered if the starting and cutting out was fuel sender related as that has flickered once or twice previously (Months ago)

But not sure why it has now gone completely dead.
Voltage goes up to 14v+ when it was running

battery....

it might seem ok but you need to do a drop test on it.

So I’ve been over to it after work....
the big 25amp ctek workshop charger has been on it all afternoon..
Ignition came on as in clocks lit up (didn’t before) headlights came on (auto lights on) When I cranked nothing but headlights flickered lots. Then lights went off from dash again..
Sat with jump leads on and still nothing...

Still think battery? It’s under warranty so having it swapped tomorrow anyway so can rule it out.
It was sat at 11.7 when I first put IID on it. Now after 6-7 hours on full charge it’s reading about 12.1...

Faults that won’t seem to clear are
Key transponder - Bus signal/message failure - missing message

thats a plan ..once the new fresh battery is on you'll have a starting point [hopefully]

I had exactly the same symptoms with my 2008 Tdv8. Turned out to be a faulty ignition switch.

Interesting, that was my other concern..
Can you just replace the switch behind the key or do you need new ignition key etc?

When I changed the switch on my previous td6 it was just the switch. There was no need to change the key.

Should think it's the same for the tdv8 as, AFAIK, it is just the position that has moved. John

Ok... so brand new battery has made no difference... so can rule that out..,
Keep getting the same two faults...
Key transponder bus signal/message failure and
In the BPM
0x95 interior security: fuse or cable

There is a buzzing behind the climate that will not turn off and I have noticed that my speed camera detector and dash cam are not powering off (wires into switched ignition roof lights)

Any pointers?
What’s involved removing ignition switch? Is it dash top off job?

Just noticed that my brake lights come on and stay on with ignition as well....

Just had a guy comment on this on another forum..
Exactly same symptoms to the tee... was ignition switch.

Will get that switched next I guess...

on the later ff like your car there is a fair bit of work to get to the switch-sadly....

When I helped diagnose the switch on a TD6, there was low voltage and no voltage on some of the fuses that are fed from the ignition switch. The TD6 has multiple feeds coming out of different parts of the same switch , not just one wire . Didn’t even need to remove the fuses, just used the pointed probe on a multimeter in to the top of the fuse.
It also got progressively worse with not starting, then not cranking and then no dash lights apart from airbag light.

So...
all of that caused by a faulty ignition switch!!
Absolute bas***d of a job lol.
So much of dash has to come out to get to it...

Very satisfying when it was all back together and fired straight up 👍🏻

For anyone needing to do it, it’s actually a BMW part
