Loire Region with a 9 year old

So SWMBO, 9 year old daughter and yours truly are planning a short trip to the Loire at the end of July / beginning of August.

I have family to visit in Les Sables but want to break up the journey from Cherbourg going both ways and fit in some activities that will engage the small person.

We're thinking of a bit of canoeing on the Loire and a visit to Les Machines de L'Ile in Nante but could do with some more suggestions for good places to visit.

We will probably have 4 days not with family to amuse ourselves so what does the learned readership recommend? Smile Bish.

Can she ride a bike ?
Amboise is a true gem of a place, and cycling along the lanes on the south bank of the Loire is a delight at any age.
Take a picnic to enjoy on one of the many river side beaches.

When I was about 9 years old we had a family holiday there back in the 70's. Camping in Saumur with a trailer tent. Had a great time but I imagine it's changed a bit since then.

Thanks guys, she certainly does enjoy riding her bike. Amboise is too far east sadly as we need to stay west of Tours. Any specific rental places to recommend for bikes and / or canoes? Bish.

Mike
Thinking of going to Amboise next September. Decent enough variety of restaurants and bars?
Cheers

Rob,
I am usually reluctant to recommend places, but I have no such doubts about Amboise for people of any age to visit.
It has everything, good bars, restaurants, hotels, shops, scenic views, history, Chateaux, etc..etc.
Enjoy Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Thumbs Up Stan,
We have got our “ carried over” tickets on Brittany ferries booked to Roscoff, but are just going to follow the sun and explore wherever we fancy.
