Caravans....

No this isn't a hate thread for caravans! Rolling with laughter

I've been looking into buying a caravan to take to LR shows etc instead of camping. Somehow Range Rovers and Tents don't quite seem right - lets be clear this C'van will have everything, central heating, hot water, shower etc etc

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else pulls a caravan, or will admit to it! What's the 4.4 RR like to tow with? I'm looking at single axles around 1250-1500kg

Let the barrage of abuse begin. Thumbs Up

Cheeky beggar!

I saw one at the weekend I'll have you know!

I will take a pic I'm sure, and no doubt report back on towing mpg & performance! Limited to 60 MPH I'll probably gain MPG!!

I tow a 3.5 ton 6m flat bed quite alot and it is simply the best most refined tow vehicle I have ever driven, even kicked in the special towing Dynamic stability once, which was nice.
Mind you the wife did say if I even say the word caravan she'd behead me.
Mind you I'm suprised you need to ask as this precisely what a Range Rover is built to do. 2008 MY Supercharged

Well I'll probably get excluded now, but, dare I say it?

Yes I have a caravan that I tow behind my FFRR.

2 kids and a MRS that don't like flying what else can I do.

Was advised not to go the petrol route as they drink fuel like it's going out of fashion.

I'm getting between 19 and 20 mpg fully loaded with a 26' twin axle, bailey senator carolina. And it's hard keeping to the speed limit, as even with the TD6 at 60mph she is doing just over 2k rpm

I would never buy a single axle, as I think they are so dangerous. Have a blow out with one and you could end up anywhere.

Martin I await my banning order.

Towing a caravan behind a FFRR will be a breeze. I regularly tow a very large Ifor Williams stock trailer loaded with beef cattle - and they have got to be the worst things to tow - always fighting, rocking the trailer and moving around in the trailer upsetting the balance etc.

In short you won't find a better tow vehicle for a trailer up to 3.5 / 4 tons unless you want to go to a mini truck which would be slower and uncomfortable.

P.S. Clarkson did a really nice test with a caravan Shocked Shocked Shocked Cool Laughing

Oh and if your getting a caravan, its been said above, get a twin axle, absolutely no question, a single axle trailer the size of a caravan, and as a caravan is very light for its size will act like a sail in any cross wind. Even overtaking lorries will be a nightmare, and can induce snaking very easily. A trailer with twin axles tows like a train, and stops (usually) in a straight line. I would never ever consider a single axle caravan- too blooming dangerous and unpredictable (spl).
