Hi all

Getting my old girl ready for sale in a few months time and thinking about a 2 litre PHEV. Just wondered if anyone can say what it’s like to live with. I imagine it will be quite a change from my 4.4 TDV8. Interested in the hybrid over a Diesel due to company tax implications.

Whose delighted? Anyone with buyers remorse?

Fuel consumption is amazing. Mine has used none for the last 3 weeks, since it failed after 3 weeks of ownership and has been at the dealers ever since😩😩😩 Currently running around in a loaner VSE diesel. Had to kick off to convince LR that a disco sport was not a satisfactory replacement for a long term fail.

1. It will never ever once do the claimed 31 miles from a fully charged battery. Expect 25 miles or less.
2. For short journeys (I do 10 miles each way) it is perfect, silent, enough power, infinity MPG so you feel as if you are saving the unborn whales.
3. Upon unlocking it makes a stupid loud musical note from near the front of the bonnet, and a low beep when reversing. I understand this is being removed. It's embarrassing.
4. full hybrid mode is very effective, swapping between EV only, petrol only, and combined, almost seamlessly. But after 60 or so miles the battery will be empty. Medium length journeys in hybrid mode are frugal with 50+ MPG achievable.
5. On long journeys you are pretty much reliant on petrol only and mid 20's is par for the course. Driven gently you will get 28mpg but no more.
6. The SAVE (ie petrol only) button is hidden away on the screen, needing 5 strokes to find it (unlike EV only which is a hard button down by the car mode knob).
7. After 3 months of ownership I still haven't charged it up anywhere other than at home
8. It takes about 2.5 hours to charge with the charging unit, or 7.5 hrs if you just plug it into a 3-pin mains socket.

Overall, it's a wonderful car, and if you accept the compromise of a relatively small battery range, and a smaller petrol engine, it works. If you are mainly wafting up and down the motorways though, simpler to stick with the SDV8

I have placed an order. 95% of my journeys (and probably 80% of my miles) are 10 miles each way or less. Then the other 5% of journeys are 200 mile plus motorway blasts. It feels as though the PHEV is the way to go.

The latest Porsche Cayenne electric got a good write up in last weeks Sunday rimes.

Finally got mine back a week ago having been off the road for the best part of 5 weeks, allbeit including a windscreen change following an errant flying stone. Electrical issue was eventual traced to a faulty charging socket which had to be sourced along with special tools to replace it. All seems good at the moment and starting to enjoy. Rolling mpg now at 42 with 50 regularly achieved on my 45 mile commute with a full battery.

Took a test drive in a hybrid ab. Found it quite bouncy/floaty compared to my sdv8
Anyone else think the same? I asked the sales person but they had no idea - I suggested it might be the 21" vs 22" on mine but they didn't know if it was that or weight diffence/placement

Deal breaker for me as Mrs hates floaty cars makes her sick

Even in Dynamic mode?

I forgot to try and they didn't suggest. Is that putting it into S?

Unbeknown to the dealers, LR have changed the settings to a softer "comfort" mode, which makes the car feel wallowy at the front end. You need to select Dynamic mode which is the wavy line blob to the left of the options in the vehicle section of the bottom screen, but it will only allow you to select this if you raise the knob on the centre console behind the handbrake lever (the one for selecting offroad options). Dynamic mode is much more like the pre-facelift model in terms of ride.
Talk about engineers overcomplicating things!!!

Badger, that is very interesting. So is this across the range rather than on the phev alone?
Would be easier if the sales person knew something more about the cars but this is LR so I have very low expectations

Yes, the 18MY cars are set up differently to be more comfortable.

Selecting dynamic mode in a phev does have other consequences. The economy optimisation function linked to satnav ie optimising ICE and battery over a journey entered into satnav, is disabled when in dynamic or sport.
