If the car was an earlier model (2002-2007), I’d of said it sounds like the dreaded steering lock fault, but thought LR sorted that problem in the later models, however they’re all voltage sensitive. Might be worth checking the battery voltage to make sure it’s not low – doesn’t have to be too low to upset the electronics especially now its getting colder. Otherwise you’ll need a code reader or IID to read the faults before you go off in all directions |

To update for info , steering lock is knackered which is a new column , can’t be bothered with it anymore so I part exed and am now the owner of an 11 plate Mercedes ml 350 , just couldn’t justify flinging anymore money at this 10 yr old car and waiting for the next £1000 bill . Will possibly get another one in a few years. |

Cars gone now but thanks any way , the car had several other minor faults as well , also the rear wings had perforated with rust along with the upper tailgate which was going to require more than a quick respray , so getting rid was about the best option |
