I would check your battery connections are clean and tight as I had a problem that appeared to be a flat battery but was a poor connection although tight I had to clean inside the battery connection with coarse emery cloth.

my starter motor was quietly failing and i had lots of issues like this that seemed to be low battery.

It sounds similar to the TD6 I worked on that had a faulty ignition switch but the thread below goes through a few things to check, methodical testing with a multimeter is the key in my opinion?
