United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Barolo Black

Hi, It was £1100 all in and for that I got their Golf GTI courtesy car for the 4 days it took to do and they protected the paint, glass and wheels. I know the coming winter will be the real test of this product, but I'm really happy with the look of the cars paintwork after they had finished. A huge difference over how it looked on day of collection in September. Also the staff will look after you so well there too!! Thumbs Up

I probably should say that I went for the most expensive paint protection and there are cheaper options from them.
Check out their website.....

did you find that there was a big difference before and after?, my MY11 l322 has light swirls in the paintwork and i really feel it would benefit from some attention, yours is a lot newer, so probably less damage to the paint, hence the before and after question looks good though Thumbs Up 2011 4.4 tdv8 autobiography black

It will cost you more money to have the paintwork corrected but it will be worth it. once done the paint will look like new. I was quite surprised how bad a condition the paint is straight from the factory when they showed me. Now the work is complete, what a difference, the paint now has so much more depth and gloss to it and the water now just runs off helping it to stay cleaner for longer........ 2010 RR Autobiography 5.0 SC

It does look a lot lighter in the sun and then on a cloudy day some people think it's black. I must say it is fairly easy to keep clean for a dark coloured car...... 2010 RR Autobiography 5.0 SC

It is possible to do your own ceramic cotings with some of the more DIY friendly products that the experts use, but you would still need a dual action polisher to get the paint perfect before aplying any coatings. People blather on about which product beats that blah blah, but the big difference is when you start using a DA. This is a significant investement for the average hobbyist, with pads and just the basic fluids/correction compounds you can easily top £400, BUT the DA will last for years and the polishes will do several cars.

This is the routine which gives results I'm happy with;

1. Good soapy wash and rinse
2. Claybar all over with Bilt Hamber original (because its economical and only needs lubricationg with soapy water)
3. Another good soapy wash and dry
4. Paintwork correction polish using DA and Meguiars Microfibre pad system correction compound (again because its economical, you get 80% of the results of a pro in a single step)
5. Another good soapy wash and dry
6. Apply GTechiq Crystal Serum Light (indoors preferably) according to instructions, one bottle did 3 cars for me
7. Apply 2 coats of GTechniq Exo coating according to instructions, one bottle did 3 cars and still enough for top-ups
8. Stand back in amazement at what an amateur can do.

You can then start applying the other stuff like wheel sealants and glass rain shedding products after that. Again I've tried a few and GTechniq take some beating.

The results of ceramic coating are outstanding durability, which is great if you don't actually enjoy detailing! Muck doesn't just fall off, but a good shower can make you blink and wonder where most of it went.

Even if I had the wherewithall I could never contenance dropping a grand for a detail on just one car, and even if your own results are not perfection you can never get the same satisfaction just lobbing out cash.

A grand Laughing Funny enough the brother in law asked me to do his BMW M4 he was so impressed with the DIY results obtaied on my 11 year old Jag, and I would have done his car just to top up my fluid stash with what was left over Laughing , but in the end he has the disposable income from his own company and wanted a warranty so went to a specialist, PLUS they did all the backbreaking stuff like the wheels which would have had me in traction.

I need to do my "new" RR before winter and after doing 3 other cars have run out of quite a lot of basic products. It can be sharp intake of breath when a few are needed all together, and needs careful negotiating skills with the better half to convince them these things are essential household items!;

3" micrfofibre correction pads x2 £20
5" microfibre correction pads x2 £20
5" backing plate £20
Meguiars correction fluid £20-50 depending on size
Crystal Serum Light and Exo V4 double pack £90
Various applicators, cloths and pads £15

So in summary for the original poster, if you only have one car and keep it a few years before changing it could well be worth it for you going "pro" and seeking out a proper detailer.

If like me you have a garage full of older "keeper" classics and dailies AND are tight as a gnats chuff, its worth getting your hands dirty and losing the odd weekend.
