Norway 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Orkney Grey
Remanufacturing Torque converter - 07 TDV8 ZF 6hp26

My converter seems to be in need of som TLC (moderate slipping at 14-1800 RPM).
I've understood only a few institutions are recommended for work on these. Anyone care to share which ones?

All three are official ZF parts suppliers.

Much appreciated, Phil. Do you know how much they usually charge for such a job? I was quoted £800 on this side of the North Sea.

Could low oil level cause similar issues?

The last (re-manufactured) 6HP26 torque converter that I bought, earlier this year, cost just under £290 delivered. I assume that your £800 quote included fitting? If it also included new fluid, then it’s a reasonable quote.

I don’t really understand what issue you feel you have with your torque converter. What do you mean by ‘moderate slipping’? Do you mean slipping with the lock-up clutch engaged?

The RPM jumps 100-200 rpm at light throttle/low speed (30-40mph). This is supposed to be Controlled slip, is it not?
Might be that "moderate" is an understatement. It feels fine when enought throttle is applied to cause full lock-up.

£800 does not include oil, fitting, or even shipping. I ship my converter to them, they rebuild, charge £800 and return it. could probably add another £50 for shipping. Full transmission rebuild comes at £3500, and this is the same procedure as above. No fitting, oil, shipping included.

An update on the matter.
I seem to have indentified a hairline crack on the plastic filter, just by the bolt on the foreward, right corner. That would be the driver side for you guys. It's making a small stain on the deck which I havent seen before, probably because it's at a slight incline, and usually the car faces the other way. This would also indicate that the oil level is a bit low.
I'm trying to acquire a bit of ZF Lifeguard 6, but it seems not many stock this stuff in Norway.

Any Place recommended for purchacing a filter change kit which includes oil? I'm considering a set from Ebay UK.

try autodoc for the pan/filter, I just got my genuine ZF one form them for a fraction of the LR and OEM prices, and its the proper thing.

Yours would be a 1068.298.083 acording to the ZF website part finder.

finding the fluid is a bit more difficult, you want ZF lifeguard 6 for the 6HP26 transmission so shop around. I managed to find LG 8 for a cheap price but haven't looked for 6. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I found a local vendor who stocked LG6 and bough a Box (12l). I was able to fill a whole litre while standing in the driveway (so not 100% certain the car was completely Level), and it made a big difference to the converter slip. The problem has not disappeared, but it now only occurs on very rare occations.

Anyone know of a low milage transmission for sale in the UK? I am considering to get another tranny and attempt overhauling the old one my self.

The transmission also gives of a sort of resonance between 1900 and 2400 RPM. I've seen this issue being mentioned in other threads, but no conclusive answer to the cause. The vibration can be felt through the pedal.
Definately feels/sounds converter-related.

I have also received quotes from the mentioned repair-facilities,

JPAT, £206 ex VAT, £64 in shipping to Norway
Sussex Autos, £198 ex VAT, £70 in shipping to Norway
Mackie Transmissions, £300 ex VAT, unknown shipping cost.

So, quite a big difference from the cost of this service in Norway.. 2007 L322 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway

Just to add my recommendation for Sussex Auto, they went out of their way to sort a refurb unit on my torque converter (on a 5HP24) after I took mine down to them. I was planning on dropping it off and picking it up later that week as they didn't have a replacement in stock but they offered to do it while I waited (about 1-2 hours). When I said I couldn't wait they then hunted for an exchange unit from a large batch recon order they had just completed which they regularly get in from Germany so to save me a return trip.
After all that they then only charged me £150 when I was quoted a very reasonable £200ish.
They also do training on ZF box rebuilds, which they were doing while I was there, and was good to have a nose at.
Anyway Thumbs Up to them!

Another update on this issue. I've done a filter/oil change/mech-sleeve this weekend and was able to fill approx. 6-7l after letting it drain over night. Filling done acc. to ZF procedure.
Gear changes might be a tad smoother, but none of the issues previously experianced have changed. Still slipping at low RPMs and resonance remains the same.

I'm trying to buy a 100k mile tranny w. converter from a gentlemen in Norway to reduce down-time while overhauling the converter, but apparantly he's to busy to dismantle/ship.. The used tranny will cost me approx. £1100 plus probably another £200 in shipping. Don't suppose I'd be able to acquire a used tranny from the UK within that budget?

I've found a couple on ebay, and one mentions a shipping cost of approx. £300, which is not a problem at all.
Now I'll just have to figure out if I somehow can have the transmission, or at least the TC remanufactured in the UK before shipping it across the pond. Certainly would be a lot easier if I was in the UK. 2007 L322 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway

If you source one off eBay, just to be on the safe side I would double check with the seller that you’re getting a 1068 020 075 model with the Y94 torque converter.
