Private buying advice please..

I'm looking to buy a Range Rover in the 15 - £18k price range.. now I know to a lot of you out there that's not a lot of money, but to me it's taken a long time to save Thumbs Up

I realise I will get more for my money buying privately, but apart from the obvious HPI check, how do I avoid getting ripped off ? I don't mean the condition of the vehicle, I'm more concerned about buying something that's a ringer or been stolen.

What other checks should I be doing ??

Thanks in advance for any advice... (if anyone has one for sale, please let me know Very Happy )

use a HPI check service that guarantees what they tell you ..thats about the best safeguard really

you can always use an indy dealer and at least get 3 months warranty (or more) and not huge margin in a £15K car...there are plenty of reputable ones..thats what I did when I bought my 2004 FFRR, to be honest, I can rarely be bothered to buy/sell private these days, had too much hassle over the years cheers

I would really like to squeeze to a facelift if I can, and I've seen a couple for sale at under £18k (both privately), but can't see one at a dealers for that price...

Both have done 80 - 90k miles, but are backed up by a FLRSH, so should be OK (fingers crossed Wink )

ah, yes, facelift has a big uplift in used price

I picked up an 04 Vogue with 50K miles on from a dealer for £15K a few months back ...wasnt too worried about the facelift, just condition/mileage as I do a fair few miles myself cheers

2002 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Bonatti Grey

6months ago I was in same position as you my only requirement was a diesel viewed several facelifts privately but the condition of them all wasn't upto my standard. I ended up buying a 52 plate for £15500 from a local dealer only 62k and Exellent condition inside and out. I'd have loved a face lift version but at my time couldn't find a decent one with our price bracket. Plan might be to do a 2010 conversion in the future.

Will really depend if you want a prestige Range Rover or one with a few scratches etc here and there.

Buying from local dealer will give you warranty and we all know this could be worth it with a Range Rover, I had 3 injectors replaced.

If you do buy privately might be worth doing an AA check on it make sure everythings ok before you buy.
