TD6 Temperature Gauge goes Hi-Low then Car won't Start. | |
Her Ladyships Independent Land Rover specialist garage is reporting intermittent starting failure issues with her TD6 subsequent to flushing the fuel system and draining the fuel tank after she put about 3/4 of tank of petrol in during a "Blonde Moment" (her words).
Car has about 105,000 miles on the clock. Generally driven like she stole it!
I'm told that when the ignition is turned on the temperature gauge swings to Hi then back to Low, the battery light flashes and the car refuses to start. Try later and it usually starts with no temperature gauge or battery light antics.
No fault codes stored. Indie says there is an intermittent ECU fault.
Indie claims to have tried to start car about 40 times and got the fault twice. They reckoned that the battery was messing about so they fitted a new battery. Need to verify this but I thought she'd had a new battery and alternator fitted earlier in the year at the (cheaper) all makes 4 X 4 garage that does most of the servicing.
My guess is a poor connection(s) or bad temperature sensor. Has anyone any experience with this or similar issue to give better guidance.
She is visiting for all of November and I'd rather not spend the whole month car fixing. Currently blowing hot and cold over keeping or selling the car. If she decides to keep it there will be an early Christmas present IID tool. Otherwise I'm working blind.
