What dealers tell us brakes!

Had the vehicle main dealer devices about 10k ago. One of their red flags was for rear brake pads low and needing changing.

Have also had juddering under hard braking. So decided today to replace pads and discs alround.

Anyway, the rear pads, low my arse, they were 1.5mm lower than the new ones I replaced them with (AP).

How can dealers get away with it? Last month the tyre specialist told me my wife's car needed the rear pads changing as they were low, it was in for 4 new tyres. I went to look at the pads, they had over 4mm left on them! They can't be more than 6mm new! Cheers

James

Some of this is partly down to liability.

With today's ever longer service intervals, it is very possible that something well within tolerance at a service may be well over-worn by the next. There is a duty of care on professionals" to ensure roadworthiness.

(of course, it could still simply be income generation...)

Having used to work in a ford dealership we were encouraged to upsell allsorts! For pads we would get £2 bonus discs was £3, wiper blades were £1 and many many more upto £20 for an aircon condensor, we also had targets to hit which was a certain amount of *red* (needs now) and *amber* needs asap... had to average a certain amount per car, was ridiculous! 2004 td6 l322 - gone

Having worked in an LR deapership in the past, we were no given a bonus for upselling, but the service advisors were.

On many occasions, what the technicians reported were often made out to be worse than they actually were...

The technicians and the service advisors both got the bonus so as above they used to adjust the health checks! 2004 td6 l322 - gone
