oil pressure indicator flickers but oil level is max ?

Hi
L322 V8 4.4L gasoline 2003

my red dashboard oil pressure symbol flickers at idle, although the oil level is correct in the engine (maximum )
the flickering disappears though as soon as i rev up above idle and during ride.

is this indicating of an issue somewhere ?
i am worried because I must refill 1Liter oil every 1000km and the cause for that high oil consumption could not be clearly identified by the dealer.
could there be a relation between the 2 facts ?

thank you for your help and advice

My 2004 4.4 doesn’t use any oil so yours is going somewhere. That’s is a lot to lose so have you checked your cam covers and also check that your dipstick has a slight vacuum using a bit of cling film or latex glove for an indication of PCV system health.
Using the hidden menu, check the engine temp isn’t going too high as in 110 deg C or more making oil really thin which happened to mine.
Crank bearings, faulty vanos seals, faulty oil pump. I connected a pressure gauge in place of the oil pressure sensor to check mine which is on YouTube, that should really be one of the first things to do.
Oil pressure sensor faulty, located on oil filter housing maybe

thank you,

i checked my oil temperature, engine at idle, after 15mn :

oil temp 106° C
radiator coolant temp 79°C
coolant temp 98°C ( down from 106°C at peak)

in your view , are these temperatures excessive or indicative of any failure in the cooling ?
if so, what should I check ?
as I own II tool, is there some other indicator or failure I should search for ?
thank you

That sounds like a faulty switch or pump you need it sorted asap engines cost a lot more than switches or pumps Thumbs Up

Those temperatures are fine, mine was getting up to 115 deg c due to bad bleeding.

i bought an adapter and pressure gauge that plugs into the oil pressure sender on the oil filter housing.

Sorry. My question was for the OP. However please feel free to let us know how yours was resolved. Was it a faulty sensor? Thanks

No, mine was as above, it was overheating slightly due to bad bleeding. I have also fitted the 80 degree stat mod. now, My temp was going over 110 degrees. C
Saying that, i am in the process of building a new engine as mine makes some tapping noises I am not happy with

You need to check your pressure at the filter housing, you replace the oil pressure sensor with an actual gauge.

Curious...The instrument cluster temp gauge didnt show the slight overheat due to bad bleeding?
