Hi Guys

I'm after a bit of assistance....

Just driving at a steady 45mph in a straight line this afternoon, when all of a sudden the 3 lights come up on the dash and it wouldn't change gear.

Limped to the garage about 5 miles away in what appeared to be 3rd gear and had a look at the faults on the IID tool which came up with:

0x8D Transmission Interface Bus Fault
0x57 Air Suspension active/inactive (not sure this is a cause, maybe more of a consequence?)
0x59 Transmission Emergency Program Fault
0x5212 Battery under voltage
0x5213 Battery Over voltage
0x60 Battery feed K187 fault: General Fault

The gearbox works in Park, Reverse and Drive (although only in 3rd), but when you move the lever into manual, gearbox won't go with it and restarting the car makes no difference.

I had the fluid changed recently with no sign of any debris, and a new filter/pan fitted and its has been behaving without problems up until now.

The garage are going to take a look at it tomorrow, but I'm going across to see if a battery reset will help, but hopefully the box isn't terminal!

Any thoughts on what else to look at?

Sounds like a failed battery. Both low and high voltage points to high resistance at the battery. Check connections are tight and cables in good condition first though.

The voltage reading was 13.9v when the engine was running, but I didn't think to check it with the engine off.  David

So the interesting one there is the over-voltage error.

If you clear all the faults, do the same fault codes come back?

(Alternatively, just wait and see what the garage says )

Didn't have time to do a full test tonight, but will clear everything tomorrow morning and see where the IID Tool leads.

I've been looking through various threads on here and the causes of locking up in 3/4 gear seem to be electrical, mechanical and anything in between! So who knows where the problem will lie.... David

This morning all seemed back to normal with only the battery looking a little low at 11.9v. Went for a test drive and gear change was all smooth, but within a mile after I'd gone over 2000rpm the Battery, DSC, Brake System and ABS lights came back on and the car went back into (what I now recognise as) 'limp home' mode.

Did some checks at the garage and found that when at 2000rpm the alternator was pushing out 17v and above! The battery is holding charge of 12.3-12.6v, so looks like only a new alternator is required. I just hope that no damage has been done to any other system.

Not cheap, but less expensive than a gearbox problem though!  David

Try to find someone who can refurb yours. A new regulator and bearings, jobs a goodun 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal
